NEWSLETTER MARCH 2022

Aces and Places

A spate of injuries has kept people off the courts including Nick De Wolfe, Brian Newlands, David Ford, Bruce Long, Ken Pettit and Peter Cooke.  Angela Shorthand has made it back to Perth after an extended stay in the UK.  Debbie Napier has successfully qualified as a "white badge" referee making her the highest qualified tennis official in WA.  Graeme Rundle competed in the Busselton jetty swim.  Lily Fairclough and Ethan Cook spent time in the eastern states over summer competing in various tennis events. Congratulations to Rhys Chester of Ian Hutchison Real Estate on the recent birth of his daughter Sophie.

Doug Webster has kindly agreed to take over as Social Play Director with Peter Messer stepping down to care for Kerry.  Our thoughts and best wishes are with Peter and Kerry as Kerry continues her battle with illness.

Coming Up

Shield Match finals commence Saturday 12th March

Sunday twilight tennis (27th March - to be confirmed)

Junior Windup - date to be confirmed

Soklich Club Dinner (scheduled for 13th May)

AGM (28th May  - to be confirmed)

Monday Night Social Tennis

Monday night social tennis commenced on 21st February and will run for 6 weeks.  The demand to play has been strong with the first 2 weeks "selling out" with all the available courts full.  Presuming this continues to be successful, it is likely it will become a permanent addition to our activities.

Sunday Afternoon Twilight Tennis

We had a Sunday Afternoon twilight tennis on 23rd January which was well attended with over 50 people having an enjoyable afternoon.  It was an ideal opportunity to introduce non club members to some of our activities and there was close to a 50/50 split of members and non members. The feedback was really positive from those that attended and we have another afternoon pencilled in for 27th March. Thanks to Nico Rodic and Ellen Lynch for their organisational efforts.

Debbie Napier was the Chair Umpire for the Womens Wheelchair Final at the Australian Open.  Here she is being presented with a silver plate in recognition.

State League Update

Our senior State League Teams have both finished on top of the table after the home and away season.  The semi finals will be played on 12th March at Hensman.

Our junior State Leaguers have also performed well with the girls finishing 1st on the ladder and the boys placing 2nd going into finals.

We also have an incredible 13 teams through to the semi finals in the junior divisions.
