Women of native cultures believed that the Moon is intricately related to a woman's biorhythm and that it significantly influenced her body, mind and spirit. When this biorhythm is in a state of balance, the natural ebb and flow of a woman's monthly cycle remains in harmony with the cycles of the moon.

The waxing cycle of the moon that starts after the new moon gathers strength and brings with it the energy of potency, regeneration and rejuvenation. As the moon swells into roundness, women get to replenish their immunity, sensuality and strength.

In the waning cycle following the full moon, the body, mind and spirit also wane. The need to withdraw from the world of activity and retreat into a time of retrospection happens almost immediately after the full moon. The waning cycle relieves us of emotional, physical and psychic excesses.

Knowing that the lunar wheel sets cadence for our life-force, biorhythms and desires offers opportunity to balance our body, mind and spirit.  A nourishing and replenishing practice of asana, pranayama and meditation during the waxing cycle helps to recharge our Goddess energy. A cleansing and calming practice during the waning cycle helps to lighten our emotional load and build inner harmony.

Foot too Loose?

Vata is the energy of air and ether, movement and impulse, creativity and connection in our body.

When vata goes out of balance, it can be erosive, drying, and destabilizing. The imbalance expresses as pain in the lower body, including in the lower back, thighs, and knees. Some of the other symptoms could be twitches, tics, tremors, spasms, dry or chapped skin, constipation, gas, bloating, dry, hard stools.

According to Ayurveda, one of the easiest ways to restore the Vata balance is by establishing  a daily routine.

Vata is also balanced by a diet of freshly cooked, whole foods that are soft or mushy in texture, rich in protein and fat, seasoned with a variety of warming spices, and served warm or hot.
