ACES AND PLACES • Exciting times for Alfee Stevens, Brendan Jayaprakash and Jay Fairclough who have all accepted College placements in the US. Safe travels, and have a blast! • Loads of great news from Hensman Juniors this month: Aidan Chan, Addison Franklin and Karin Hiramatsu are off to the Gold Coast after being selected to represent WA at the State Teams Tournament! Good luck, guys! • Aidan Chan and Zayah Baker took home top honours in the U14 Boys and Girls Singles events at the 2024 Rafa Nadal Tour recently! • Congratulations to Thomas McKenzie, Alice Stevens and Jaun Yum who represented WA at the 2024 Pizzey Cup in Tasmania last month and brought home 4th place overall and All-Australian Honours for Alice. Alice also took out the Tennis West Champion of Champions Women's Doubles with big sis Alfee, and both the Girls Singles and Doubles at the J30 Darwin International, where Luka Vujacic also made it to the Boys Singles final! • Well done to everyone who played at the State Hardcourt Championships earlier this month. As always, plenty of Hensman members made it to the podium - Jash Sheth, Aedan Hoh, Thien Le, Brendan Chan, Jake Bolingbroke, Marc Sutisna, Keisuke Kogo, Kael Bacchelli-Khoo, Paige Connolly, Chloe Tyers, Jason Howard, Toma Terasawa, Ved Dixit, Benita Vinciguerra, Mayla Manoj and Eva Ishchenko! Congratulations to Jaden Taylor-Rennie who also made the podium at last weekend's CBC Tennis Factory UTR Colour Ball Series event! • Shirley Davies enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Saturday Social Tennis last week after being inducted into the Hensman Life Members Club. A well deserved honour, as Shirley has been one of the longest serving volunteers at the Club. Thanks for always being there Shirley! • We welcome FD Hoh and Una Phelan to the Hensman Park Board. FD is looking after the Grounds and Hall and Una is our new Administrator. • The Year 10 Wesley Borders celebrated the end of their mid-year exams with a Pickleball Masterclass at Hensman, lead by super-coach Adam Napier! MEMBER PROFILE FRANK HALL Frank recently celebrated his 85th birthday with the Wednesday Men's Shed boys. Get to know our friend Frank: • Born on Sat 6 May 1939 in York, England • Frank's dad was a security guard for the Queen's horses • Represented England in soccer during high school • Studied electrical engineering and worked in the automotive industry, training bus and heavy haul drivers • Moved to Perth in 1976 • Worked as an orderly at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and still volunteers today • Joined Hensman in 2017 and was awarded Member of the Year in 2021 • 2 kids - Michelle and Michael and 5 grandchildren • Loves singing and ballroom dancing with his partner Linda • Recovering well from a recent stroke • Makes a great cuppa! |
