As summer draws to a close, Turnbull Audio is also completing much of the work needed for the November launch. As we get closer, we thought we would share some answers to some commonly asked questions we have received.
Why is the cable so heavy?
Almost without exception, this is the first question asked when someone picks up a Turnbull Audio cable for the first time. In short, the materials possessing the properties needed to create the Field Obfuscation layer are quite dense. Given the volume and density needed to optimize their effect, this creates a cable assembly that weighs more than standard cotton-damped and traditional shielded cables.
What is Field Obfuscation?
We touched on the four elements of a Turnbull Audio cable design in the last newsletter. Field Obfuscation is an alternative to the conventional shield applications most cables use. Instead of creating a solid (foil shields) or stranded (tinned copper braided) material interaction, Turnbull Audio uses highly engineered particulates. There are multiple materials, and each material has been exhaustively tested to determine the best shapes and sizes of each granule. Naturally, any change of one granule and material immediately impacts the effects of the surrounding materials, so it has taken many years to reach a result with uniform effect across all frequencies.
