AHANA has been working tirelessly under the radar improving the website structure to make it more 'user friendly', researching and acquiring Professional Development courses, and looking for and posting links to Research Articles that AHA's have been involved in around the world. We have also been providing Allied Health Assistants with Peer Support trying to answer questions or direct them to other supports. We have been busy planning for the future, networking with various organisations to gain advice on how we can best support AHAs and set up the Network so it becomes more sustainable, moving towards becoming a professional entity, peak body. Our aim is to support, promote, educate and advocate for Allied Health Assistants nationally.

New Courses Posted Include:

  • World Health Organization (WHO), Clinical Management of patients with COVID-19: Rehabilitation
  • University of Tasmania - Understanding Dementia, Preventing Dementia, Understanding Multiple Sclerosis, Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

New Research Articles:

  • AHANA has attained approval to share a research article organized by the Disability Services Consulting team; (DSC) Shades of Grey, Allied Health Assistants. This article addresses the nature of AHA frameworks in various states, Allied Health Professional considerations when delegating to Allied Health Assistants, the outlook for Allied Health Assistants within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Allied Health Assistants can find both the courses and research articles via the Student section on our website; http://www.AHANA.com.au.

  • AHANA has updated our Mentor/Peer Support forms so we can better assist and support AHA's in the workforce
  • We have developed Discipline Specific Resources by adding detail into Allied Health disciplines and State Specific Information by adding new committee members into their states

Allied Health Assistant - 6 years in (Private and Public sector) and currently working at Claro Aged care and Disability services.

What do you like most about being an Allied Health Assistant (AHA)?

I enjoy working with Allied Health Professionals, assisting client/patients and supporting AHAs.

If you could be a superhero who would you choose and why?

If I could be a superhero I would choose Spiderman. His ability to soar through the air, gliding from building to building is incredible. His kind, caring personality and of course his ability to protect people from criminals is amazing (I'm not a fan of the fighting parts though).
