Do you know how to spot MIS-C?
Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), also called pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome (PMIS or PIMS), is a newly recognized, potentially serious illness in children that seems to be related to COVID-19.
For many children, it appears to be a delayed complication of COVID-19 infection, although not all children with MIS-C-related symptoms test positive for the virus.
It is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.
Symptoms include:
Fever that lasts 24 hours or longer.
Vomiting.
Diarrhoea.
Pain in the stomach.
Skin rash.
Strawberry tongue.
Feeling unusually tired.
Fast heartbeat.
Rapid breathing.
Not all children have all the symptoms.
Children with symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
