SOCIAL HAPPY HOUR

Becki R, Patrick, Maggie and Carol are creative leaders for our members-only, Zoom Happy Hour each Friday. They always come up with a new topic or game that allows us to have fun and learn more about each other.

Last week our newest members, Ann, Fred, Kathleen, Richard, and told hilarious stories that had everyone laughing to the point of tears. Thanks, friends for giving us something to look forward to each week! We all look forward to each Friday so we can laugh, keep in touch, and develop closer relationships. What an awesome group! We can’t wait until we live in our community!

The New Normal = ZOOM?

It is safe to say that our lives have drastically changed over the last 5+ months. One of the biggest changes has happened within our work and social spaces. Communications culture and converting our communication methods to mostly zoom and other online platforms lets us talk from a distance. Many of us are beginning to feel the drain of another zoom call or another zoom webinar or another zoom meeting.

At Adams Creek Cohousing we are sustaining our community life through zoom with Friday Happy Hour, zoom business meetings, committee meetings, design meetings, Open Houses, and just social calls.

Sometimes it is easy to feel overwhelmed but we have found some creative ways to have fun, or keep meetings on task, such as using the Chat Box to guide Q&A sessions, to use recordings so that conversations or presentations can be reviewed later. Using some Sociocracy/Dynamic Governance methods such as speaking in rounds also helps so that all people are heard and everyone shares. But in the end, everyone feels that they are staying connected and informed and our community is growing and becoming closer.

AGING GRATEFULLY:

COVID19, Catharsis, and Community

Foundation for Intentional Community (www.ic.org) is presenting a new film in the Aging Gratefully series by Alan O’Hashi. Aging Gratefully: COVID19, Catharsis, and Community is a continuing series in the Aging Gratefully documentary memoir series. It explores what it is like to be isolated and lonely through interviews with residents of cohousing communities.

Alan O’Hashi states, “Self-isolated in a cohousing community during the COVID19 pandemic, veiled by racial justice issues, has moved me to think about how to redefine Superman’s American Way in the context of interpersonal connection as a hedge against loneliness.

“What if we live in a society based on strong communities rather than rugged individualism; inclusion of people for who they are rather than based on assimilation; sharing rather than competition with winners and losers?”

If you are interested this film can be rented or downloaded digitally. Please contact the above website.
