Virtual PMH Book Club Interested in reading books related to Perinatal Mental Health? The Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings are taking a different approach to book clubs! "Every three months, we will select a specific topic important to those of us in Perinatal Mental Health and read one (or more) books on that topic. The discussion will focus on the topic rather than the book itself. You are free to choose any book or select one from our recommended list. Then, we will get together to share our newfound knowledge and discuss the topic in-depth. There is no cost for this group. Our first meetup will be our introductory launch!"
First meet up will take place Tuesday, March 19th, 2023 (Via Zoom) 8:00 PM EST (9:30PM Newfoundland Standard Time) More information and registration can be found at the link below: |

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder and Reproductive Justice: Examining Unmet Needs for Mental Health and Social Services in a National Cohort In January 2024, a new study from the United States was published in the Health Equity journal, which explored the disparities in perinatal mental health services amongst racialized populations. This study found that Indigenous women, Black women, and Latina women were more likely to have unmet needs for perinatal screening and treatment. The study discusses various barriers to integrating assessments and interventions into perinatal services. However, a protective factor was that those with a Midwife in the provision of care were more likely to have experienced perinatal mental health screening. While this study is localized to the United States, it does highlight the racial disparities and structural barriers that exist to further support the need for national, universal screening programming and treatment services for perinatal mental health.
