There are some great classes in store for session 2 including the return of Woodworking and Cooking!
 

  • Lantern Making for River of Light - Grades 5 - 8 on Fridays begins 10/13

  • Cooking for Grades 5 - 8 on Mondays begins 10/30

  • Studio Art - Grades 3 - 4 on Wednesdays begins 11/1

  • Woodworking - Grades 6 - 8 on Thursdays begins 11/2

  • Clay - Grades 5 - 9 on Fridays begins 11/3

  • Stained Glass - Grades 5 -8 on Tuesdays begins 11/7

  • Learn to Sew - Grades 5 - 8 on Tuesdays begins 11/7

  • Studio Art K - 2nd on Tuesdays begins 11/7

Upcoming Adult Programs

Paint Your Pet's Portrait

October 15 - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Students will first learn techniques for more accurate sketching of their pet or favorite animal's features and then complete a painted portrait. All materials included. Teens & adults. $75

Full 7-week course

November 2 - December 21

Learn all the basics you need to get started in clay; all handbuilding techniques, glazing and an intro to the wheel. This is a prerequisite for all other clay classes. Teens & adults. $210.

Decorate a Holiday Wreath

November 17

Enjoy a relaxing evening of crafting, refreshments and socializing, while getting into the holiday spirit! Decorate a fresh wreath with embellishments of your choice and learn to make a bow. Teens & adults. $40

Lantern Building Workshops

for A River of Light Lantern Parade

 It's almost that time of year again! The annual River of Light Lantern Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 2nd in downtown Waterbury. The theme for this year's parade is 'Toys & Games'. All lantern building workshops are now open for registration! Please register now to reserve your space!

The community is invited to participate in a FREE lantern building workshop at Brookside Primary School to make a lantern to carry in the parade. There are two weekends of workshops led by MK Monley, Mame McKee, and Sarah-Lee Terrat:

 

Artists Large Scale Lanterns - November 4th and 5th - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Previous experience is recommended but not required.

 

Family Large Scale Lanterns - November 11th - 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

A full day workshop for families for building larger scale lanterns.

 

November 12th - There are two (separate) simple yet delightful two-hour vellum lantern making workshops; 10:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

New this year - Lantern Building for Middleschoolers in grades 5-8. This is a full 7-week session of afterschool classes in which kids will build larger lanterns for the parade. Runs from October 13 to December 1st. (Regular program fees apply). Info & register.

Funding Awarded to MakerSphere!

 

Thank you for funding provided by: the Vermont Arts Council,

the National Endowment for the Arts & the Vermont Community Foundation

MakerSphere is pleased to announce the receipt of funding including a $7,500 Creative Futures grant and a $9,000 Arts Operating Grant, both from the Vermont Arts Council in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. Additionally, the Vermont Community Foundation awarded MakerSphere a $6,000 Art and Social Cohesion grant to help support the River of Light Lantern Parade and to provide afterschool art making activities for middle school students in our community. These funds allow MakerSphere to continue to provide crucial access to creative outlets that have proven to enhance mental well-being and community engagement. Thank you to these extremely important organizations!
