News and updates from the farm

The last few months have been a busy period for the 'Happy Tea Company' team, creating new plants from seeds and plant stock. We have also been busy turning our soils into quality seedbeds for those plants and seeds, so they get the best possible start.

January, February & March on the farm;

During January & February our chief plant propagator, Sarah has propagated* approximately 10,000 new Black Mitcham & Milestone Peppermint Babies. Once established, these plants will be planted in April to develop further into mature plants that can be harvested later in the year. To produce our lovely peppermint herbal teas.

*'Propagation' is the practice of taking individual small root cuttings from mature plants which then grow on and develop into new individual plants.

In March the team were busy preparing our soils to plant our crops out. Once the soil had warmed up...

April & May on the farm;

In April, once our seedbeds had been prepared and the soil had warmed up, we started planting out all our newly propagated Peppermint & Chamomile 'Babies'. To help with this we have a tractor mounted 'planter' which places the plant modules in three lines at equal spaces apart.
