Greetings I AM STEM Family,
I hope that 2021 is treating you well thus far. We cannot ignore the current unrest in America, and subsequent trauma experienced by many of our children, families, and loved ones. We are all surviving multiple pandemics while being expected to proceed with business as usual in our jobs and institutions. Nothing is the same, and we are in a unique position to reimagine and create a more just world.
Our team is in the process of finalizing our end-of-year report and will include a digital copy in our next correspondence. If you had a child participate in the 2020 virtual STEM Camp, please take a few minutes to provide us with feedback. We will include a summary of the survey responses in our report and use that information to begin planning for summer program offerings. Thank you to all parents who have submitted and plan to engage in a focus group.
We launched our “I AM STEM Goes to College” series in December 2020 with a virtual campus visit to Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Attendees engaged with an admissions officer, Auburn University alumni, current college athlete, and a STEM major.
For the first three months of this year, we will visit Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Our first stop is Norfolk University in Norfolk, Virginia on January 21st, then we will make our way to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, FL on February 11th, 2021. We’ll stay on the east coast a little longer and visit Bowie State University in Bowie, MD on March 11th, 2021. All events are VIRTUAL and FREE!! So register on our website today. It’s never too early to start thinking about college.
Be safe, stay healthy, and wear your masks!
Sincerely,
Natalie S. King
