A TIME TO BE BORN Juanita Laverne Blount Richardson was born on October 26, 1939 to Iola Brodie Blount formerly from Wilson, NC and Willie Blount, Sr. of Raleigh, NC. Juanita Laverne was the oldest of six children and was a positive role-model for her siblings. Throughout her lifetime she demonstrated her love for all humanity. A TIME TO GROW Juanita spent the first few years of her life in East Raleigh. The desire to rejoin the family's descendants precipitated the family's move back to Oberlin (now know as Oberlin Village) in West Raleigh. Oberlin was the first African-American community of professional freedmen in the region. In West Raleigh, Juanita spent most of her developmental years learning the important values of contributing to society. While growing up in Raleigh, Juanita attended the family church Oberlin Baptist Church. At Oberlin Baptist Church, Juanita's father served as a Deacon and the Church Treasurer. Her mother served as Chair of the Deaconess Board. Both parents significantly influenced Juanita and were her primary foundation for her continuous engagement in the choirs, Baptist Training Union (BTU), and Junior Usher Board. Juanita had a strong complementary alto voice. She and her sister often sang religious and classical duets for her mother and family in the family home for special family occasions and weekend quality time together. Juanita enjoyed all genres of music and the genuine fellowship of her family and friends. Educated in Wake County, NC, Juanita attended Oberlin Elementary School where she learned to play the viola and cello. Juanita attended J.W. Ligon High School and graduated in May 1958. She continued her education at Shaw University and North Carolina Central University in Raleigh, NC and Durham, NC respectively. Afterwards she lived in Mount Vernon, New York before moving to Washington, D.C. A TIME TO LOVE Juanita met her husband Max B. Richardson in Washington D.C. To that union one child was born, Kimberly. A TIME TO WORK Juanita was employed at Channel 4 Television Station in Washington, D.C. She later worked for the Purchasing Department at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Her volunteer work included working on the national Presidential campaigns for both former Presidents William J. Clinton and Barack H. Obama. She received special recognition from the two of them. Juanita was a long-time active member of the Federal Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. She served on various committees and worked tirelessly to promote the national goals and objectives of the organization. |

When Juanita retired from the workforce and returned to North Carolina, she was compelled to contribute to the region to which she was returning. Some of Juanita's contributions were manifested via her passion to serve others. That passion led Juanita to become a member of the Raleigh Chapter of Aglow International in 2003. Juanita believed that serving others included teaching others. In Aglow International she was dedicated and committed to perform missionary work at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh on every third Sunday of each month. For the purpose of assisting with transforming lives, there she ministered and taught the women about the love of Christianity and its associated outcomes. Additionally, Juanita's passion for serving others inspired her to become a Substitute Teacher in the Wake County Public School System. A TIME TO TRAVEL Traveling was a favorite leisure pursuit for Juanita. She enjoyed traveling to various regions which included many islands. Some of these locations were Venezuela, Bahama Islands, Canada, California and Hawaii. The many times that Juanita visited Hawaii, her visits included traveling to the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. THE JOURNEY OF FAITH While in Wasington, D.C., Emmanuel Baptist Church was Juanita's home of faith. At Emmanuel one of her primary roles included serving on the Trustee Board. Juanita's final home Church was Malaby's Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church in Knightdale, NC. For over fifteen years, Juanita has praised God with a congregation of faith-filled members where she worked in the following capacities: Pastor's Aid Ministry President, Church Clerk, New Members Class Ministry, Mass Choir. A TIME OF PEACE Juanita Laverne Blount Richardson departed this earthly life and transitioned to her peaceful eternal life on May 23, 2020. A TIME OF REMEMBRANCE Preceding Juanita in death were Iola B. Blount, mother; Willie Blount Sr., father; and two brothers, Wilbert A. Blount, and Lawrence A. Blount. Left to cherish her fond memories are Juanita's daughter, Kimberly R. Clinkscales (Darwin) of Gibsonville, NC; two granddaughters, Alexandra D. Clinkscales and Lauren M. Clinkscales both of Gibsonville, NC; two brothers, Willie Blount Jr. (Vickie) of Aurora, OH and Dr. Brian C. Blount (Evelyn) of Greensboro, NC; sister, Francine B.
