TIPS FOR JOB HUNTING IN A PANDEMIC!
1) Have a stellar resume! Do not write out everything you have ever done. Bullet point key words and make an effort to keep it a one pager. The average job gets approx. 250 applicants and only 4-6 of those will be seen as qualified enough for an interview. Your resume must shine and always maintain Contact Resume Pro's 3C's: CLEAN, CRISP, and CURRENT!
2) Practice your interviewing skills. This is so important. You don't know when you will get that first screening call so you must be ready. If sending multiple applications, take good notes to remember what companies you applied for, what position, and why you are a good fit for that specific job. Be prepared to share what you know about the company that you want to work for, they expect you to have an idea of who they are. Be ready to sound confident and sell yourself. Getting to the actual interview usually means passing the first screening call. If you are applying and not making it to stage two or three of the interview process, you need more practice. You can schedule a Zoom session to rehearse these conversation/ interview skills by texting Contact Resume Pro (424) 239-9366.
3) Update your social media. Your LinkedIn profile should be current and shine or it should not exist at all. Any social media profiles you do not want to be seen by a future employer should be paused or deleted. Hiring managers troll these sites to see what kind of image you have in the every day world. If you need help updating or creating a LinkedIn profile let Contact Resume Pro know!
4) Chat with those you know! Talk you your friends, family, neighbors, and old co-workers; make an effort to let people know you are open to a new opportunity. Tell them your resume is current and you are actively seeking a new career. Word of mouth is everything, most jobs are landed because of a personal connection.
5) Be patient and empathetic. Be patient with the new career process because sometimes finding your next job is like finding a needle in a haystack. Exercise empathy with the recruiters and HR managers you engage with because they are often extremely overwhelmed and underpaid. The chaos and the long wait times in between the interviewing stage and before you finally get hired and offered a job is very frustrating. Stay positive and calm. As you follow-up on the position of interest always ask how the other is doing. Showing empathy is a great way to connect and will help you to stand out.
Don't let the pandemic hold you back from seeking your next best career. If you are organized, focused, and qualified, you will likely outshine those who currently feel overwhelmed and too anxious to even work.
