Greetings!
I am thinking about shortcuts these days. Leverage points. Sweet spots. Whatever the label, we have a narrowing window of time to recast our collective die into a form we can not just live with, but thrive within. All of us.
And so we need to find the quickest, most effective ways to avert the catastrophic impacts of self-generated crises such as global warming and social decline. Now-ish. As the Brazilians say, A hora é essa.
That may seem hysterical or threatening. I don’t see it that way, though. I believe it’s a very empowering, compelling opportunity to stop generating – and ideally to reverse – these crises. I also believe we can do it if we:
A. recognize the urgency;
B. embrace the complexity; and
C. take shortcuts where we can.
Having spent much of the summer traveling to places where I heard vastly different people worrying about uncannily similar issues, my latest blog post explores the ABC’s of getting ourselves out of the mess.
If you fancy heading straight for a shortcut, I also recently posted a book review of Kristin Ohlson’s The Soil Will Save Us, a well-researched, accessible journey into the potential of soil. Reconnecting with a life-giving element while drawing down potentially significant amounts of CO2 is part of that empowering, compelling opportunity I’m so excited about.
Let’s not worry. Let’s get busy.
Yours in connectedness,
Lorraine
