Join us on March 6th, as we celebrate the amazing women involved with WoW and the diversity of cultures found here in Utah. You will see amazing cultural dress during the International Fashion Show and get to meet clients, staff, and friends of Women of the World. Supporting the Fashion Show builds helps to bring unity, support and understanding for all members of the community, no matter their background. The Fashion Show gives our friends and clients a opportunity to share not just their cultural dress, but also stories of their journey toward self-reliance here in their new home in Utah.

Building Bridges

Samira, our Executive Director, participated in Building Bridges, an event that fosters collaboration and brings together various non-profit organizations in Salt Lake City, on January 23rd. The featured speaker, Jody Moore, has successfully assisted thousands of individuals in navigating a wide range of goals and challenges. Her enthusiasm to guide and support us through similar journeys was palpable, and Wow is eager to apply the insights gained from her expertise.

New Employees

Wow is excited to introduce Lillian Bowles-Brown, our new Volunteer Coordinator VISTA. Her career has previously been in financial services where she worked as a loan officer, insurance producer and Regional Vice President, holding investment licenses in series 6, 63 & 26 through FINRA and a Life, Health, Home & Auto insurance license with the State of Utah.

Lillian recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Utah. A fervent advocate for diversity and inclusion, Lillian aspires to ignite positive change, especially as a trailblazer in women's empowerment. A proud Utah native, Lillian is excited to be working with WoW and strengthening opportunities for women in her community. Beyond her professional life, you'll find Lillian gardening, taking long walks with close friends, and creating memories with her four cherished grandchildren.

Wow is also excited to introduce Andria Gulrajani Gilmour as our

Finance Manager.

Andria earned a BA in International Business and a Master of Arts in Economics. During this time she was able to study abroad in Costa Rica, China and the United Kingdom. She also enjoyed participating in humanitarian projects in Tanzania and India.

She has worked in banking and finance in both the US and the UK, where she met her British husband. They have four lively children.
Her study of development economics has taught her that educating girls is key to changing the future and she agrees that "Empowering Women is Smart Economics" (IMF).  Andria considers it a privilege to be working with Women of the World and to help support this important mission.

Justin Harnish, Salt Lake City, Utah

What does it take to stick with a goal for 14 years to grow a nonprofit when that work is not your only focus? Harnish has an explanation. “I believe that how you work and live are equally important to the results you deliver. Ensuring everyone in our community has opportunities to create their own priceless experiences is a cornerstone of my service philosophy.” Benefiting from his philosophy is Women of the World, which he co-founded with his wife, Samira Harnish, executive director. In a decade-plus, WoW has evolved into an internationally recognized women refugee service organization. Yet it maintains grassroots qualities of customized services for forcibly displaced women and their families, with over 5,000 helped to date. Thirteen full-time employees, along with contractors and volunteers, provide advocacy that might start with a cup of tea and includes English classes, direct service, and a popular employer partnership program.

First Baptist Tea

Samira, our Executive Director, graciously accepted an invitation to The First Baptist Church Tea, where she passionately shared the impactful initiatives of WoW. During this gathering, she delved into WoW's commendable efforts within the refugee population, shedding light on the organization's origins, its progressive growth, and the pressing challenges confronting refugee women in our community today.

Naween Saeed, an employee and volunteer for Wow, was highlighted in The Daily Universe, a newspaper for BYU University.
