Recap of Week 3

Sneak Peek of Week 4

Release Date: Sunday, September 10, 2023

Hello Room 115 Families,

What a lively four-day week we had in kindergarten! The kids are really starting to connect with each other as they settle into routines and explore our school's nooks and crannies. Many of them are really grasping our classroom expectations, recognizing the moments for focused learning and those for shared laughter and fun. It's wonderful to see their progress in responding to these cues.

In week 3, our focus was on colors poems, growth mindset, names, and building connections with each other.

Please read below for a more detailed look at our week.

I was thrilled to see many of you at the back-to-school picnic last Friday. It was wonderful to witness our school community coming together and having a splendid time with our little ones! If we didn't cross paths or you couldn't make it, I hope to connect this Thursday at Curriculum Night on September 14th.

Before we dive into the week's details, I wanted to share something special with you. I'm always on the lookout for fun and creative ways to bring excitement into our classroom. However, sometimes I encounter challenges in obtaining the supplies needed for these activities. If you'd like to contribute to our classroom adventures, you can always check out our Wish List linked here or I will put hot commodity items at the top of our news letter. Your thoughtful gifts will be greatly appreciated by both me and our wonderful students.

I hope you're enjoying your Sunday, and I can't wait to see everyone on Monday!

Best wishes,

Ms. Clark

A Deeper Looks into Week 3 & What's Ahead for Week 3

Phonics

This week we started to dip our toes into our phonics program. Each week your child will learn some new uppercase letters along with their lowercase partner and sounds. We will also have a focus/ snap word of the week too. This week our focus words were ...

I - AM

Growth vs. Fixed Mindset

This week, we engaged in exciting conversations about growth and fixed mindsets. We explored these concepts through a series of short videos by ClassDojo. Be sure to chat with your child and discover what "The Power of Yet" means to them!

Handwriting

Your child is making ongoing progress in writing, focusing on their first and some last names. Additionally, we are dedicated to refining our letter and number formations, particularly numbers 0 to 3 and the letters within their name.

Math

Each day, we've been diligently practicing counting in various ways. We're working on counting to 100, both by 10s and by 1s. In addition, we have a weekly number focus, such as week 3 when our focus was on the number 3. We've also been actively engaging with our calendar and using ten frames to count the days we've been in school.

 Hot Topics from the week

Your little artists have been busy creating their self-portrait this week, and it's going to be on display for all to see during Curriculum Night this Thursday, September 14th.

But that's not all the fun we had! On Wednesday, we teamed up with our 5th-grade book buddies from Ms. Tyler's Class for some fantastic reading time. Check out our Google Photos with your child to hear all about the cool adventures your child had with their new 5th-grade friend!
