How the US Election Increases Risks for Climate and Democracy |

|
This Wednesday, October 21, from 11 am to noon PT, explore how the 2020 US election is by far the most critical event affecting climate geopolitics since the climate crisis evolved. In terms of political leadership, a Democratic win would revitalize global engagement for the UN Climate Summit in November 2021. A Republican win would set back global leadership on the climate file for much of the coming decade. We simply do not have a decade to catch up. Time is of the essence to taking action on the climate and biodiversity emergencies. |

Washington DC lawyer, Mace Rosenstein, will bring his laser sharp mind to answering the following questions: - Who actually votes for the President?
- What is the role of the Electoral College?
- What are the opportunities for President Trump to game the voting process?
- Is the US really a democracy?
You may be surprised with the answers. Mace Rosenstein practiced telecommunications law in Washington, D.C. for more than 35 years. But he also has a keen understanding of US electoral politics and its constitutional foundations. He will dissect how the vote is undertaken in the US and the many flaws in the process compared with Canada. Bob Sandford will interview Mace. Bob is the Global Water Futures Chair in Water and Climate Security at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health. Our partner Jon O’Riordan, Founder of the Gail O’Riordan Climate and the Arts Legacy Fund will summarize what is at stake in global climate policies and institutions in this pivotal election. He will explore how individuals, communities and businesses can implement creative solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises even without leadership from national governments. This webinar is the first in a two part series with the second webinar scheduled for the day after the US Election on November 4th. Mace Rosenstein will be joined by Tom Axworthy, a senior policy advisor to the Federal government to review on the results available after the election and the implications of Canada-US relations. If you want to understand what is at stake and how the US election might unfold you cannot afford to miss next week’s webinar. |
