Join the [virtual] seance!

HAPPY WORLD POETRY DAY!

To celebrate, we are delighted to share this song written and performed by Jade Cuttle, in response to the work of the Dead [Woman] Poet Gisèle Prassinos. Jade ressurected Prassinos for our event in Norwich, as part of our 2020 ACE-funded tour. You can listen to the live podcast of the whole event here on our site.

In times like these, we need poetry and the arts more than ever, if only to remind us that we are not alone. We hope you enjoy Jade's beautiful song as much as we do.

UPDATE DUE TO COVID-19

We are very sorry to announce, we have made the sad but necessary decision to postpone our upcoming events in Halifax and Oxford. We will be announcing new dates in the next month or so, once they've been confirmed.

HOWEVER, the Dead [Women] Poets Society continues! We'll be upping the content we post on our blog over the coming months. That means more poems, essays, songs, videos and podcasts, communing with the dead women and non-binary poets through the magic of the internet.

We also have A VERY EXCITING NEW PROJECT which we are hoping you will get involved with. Now announcing...

The [Virtual] Seance!

#JoinTheVirtualSeance

Over the month of April we will be constructing on our site a virtual, interactive seance, and we'd like you to contribute!

The virtual seance will exist online for everyone to participate in and enjoy. We'll be launching it with a special (virtual) edition of our popular Open Mic events - more on this when it's confirmed.

In the meantime, you can contribute by responding to out first Virtual Call-Out:

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - DEADLINE 31st MARCH

We are asking our supporters to send in an audio clip of you reading your favourite poem by a dead woman or non-binary poet. You can email this to deadwomenpoets@gmail.com, or send it to our Facebook page via direct message using Facebook's 'Voice Clip' feature. We'd also welcome videos from speakers of BSL or other signed languages.

Please DO:

- Say clearly who the poem is by, and also credit the translator if applicable.

- Send us poems/recordings in any language - we want this seance to be international! We will be captioning everything anyway, and may contact you if we need help sourcing an English translation for the caption.

- State your name if you would like to, but you don't have to. Let us know in your message if you prefer to remain anonymous.

Please DON'T:

- Send recordings of poems which are not by dead women or non-binary poets

- Send in very long recordings (i.e. over 5 minutes) as we may not be able to use these

We're so excited to build this project with you! As ever, send us a message through our site if you have any questions or wish to contact us about anything.

Are you a singer?

We're looking for singers (of all kinds!) to get involved in a possible future project with us and the composers behind the new Quarantine Song Project, to raise funds to support freelance artists in the UK who've found themselves suddenly out of work.

If interested, email deadwomenpoets@gmail.com

Want to support us?

Like all arts organisations, we've been (and will continue to be) hit by the effects of COVID-19. Besides booking a ticket to one of our future events, don't forget you can always buy one of our beautiful tote bags on our site. Only £5 plus delivery!

Sisters Uncut, who we are fundraising for this year, also need our support now more than ever. Do consider donating if you can.

In the meantime...

Stay safe, check out all the new content on our site, and don't forget to send in your recordings to #jointhevirtualseance before next weekend!
