FutureMakers Update
December 2019

Tēnā rā koutou huri noa, huri noa!

At the end of the year we look forward to an opportunity to unwind, relax, be with family and friend, reflect on what has been - and look ahead to what the future may hold.

As we are winding things up I thought I'd share some thoughts that might be useful to you over the break....

Future Focused organisations worth following:

Here is some information about three organisations in the US that I've established links with during my visit there in November that I thought may be of interest to you in terms of their policy work and the 'big ideas' they're working with in the US context:

  • Aurora Institute (previously iNACOL) -  a leading advocacy organisation for transforming education - some of their latest papers worth a read:
    • Aligning Education Policy with the Science of Learning and Development - I was fortunate enough to be asked to contribute to the writing of this report which is intended to be used by education leaders to create a vision and framework for how to best support student learning and development.
    • Transforming Teaching: "What University Presidents and Deans of Colleges of Education Need to Know about Modernizing the K-12 Educator Workforce"
  • KnowledgeWorks -  - I've particularly linked with them over the years regarding their future forecasting work - latest publication here - Forecast 5.0 – The Future of Learning: Navigating the Future of Learning
  • Digital Promise -  - lots of strings to their bow, but particularly interested in their work around the challenge map they have created - lots of good stuff here to consider as framing for the future of education.

From Derek's Blog:

Some of my recent posts...

  • Hyper-Vigilence Required - ponders the question, "how best do we prepare ourselves and our students for living in this hyperconnected world, where they can remain ‘human’ and make wise and informed decisions that will impact their own and each other’s lives for good?“
  • Authentic Learning Contexts - how do we make the focus of our learning activity meaningful, and not simply a ‘tokenistic nod’ to some sort of local or global issue?
  • Holiday Reading - short review of three of the books I've read this year that I think may be of interest to 'future-making' educators.

Until next year...

Meri Kirihimete me ngā mihi o te tau hou!
