Newsletter - November 15, 2019

Welcome to the season of giving thanks and remembering all who are important to us.  We at SewGreen@Rochester are very thankful for you, our community that supports what we do at SewGreen. Without you we would not be here. Our mission of Community, Creativity, and Sustainability, is carried out every time you create something using an item from our shop, join in one of our classes or clubs, spread the word about us to family and friends, and when you pop in just to say hello.

Thank you for your support and remember that we are here throughout this holiday season and we welcome you to stop in and look around, chat with others in the shop, take a class, or join us at open sew, crochet club, or family sew. Have fun creating something from our rescued fabric or yarn, create a gift for someone, or for yourself!

We have many classes and events coming up in the next few weeks. They are posted near the end of this newsletter in a short calendar format that you can save as an image to your phone or computer for quick reference with a right click.

We also have lots of interesting photos of projects completed in classes from the past few weeks. We hope you find this newsletter piques your interest to try a new skill, or to continue in a skill you enjoy. Either way, we thank you again for being part of our community of creators and helping our environment by using items that we have rescued and kept from landfills.

Visit the Rochester Maker Faire on Saturday November 23rd at the Riverside Convention Center Down town. SewGreen will be there with Treadle Sewing Machines and other hands-on activities.

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Our Pop-Up Sales and Saturday specials are announced there, as well as closures caused by weather and reminders of special events and upcoming classes. Our weekly sales are announced on our website at sewgreenrochester.org

We look forward to seeing you in at the Shop!

Food Pantry Market Bags

There are now four food pantries making market bags from our fabrics:

  • Greece Ecumenical Food Pantry
  • ROC Salt in the South Wedge
  • Third Presbyterian Food Cupboard, Rochester
  • Saint Lucy’s Food Pantry in Syracuse

SewGreen is happy to work with anyone who wants to make bags for pantries. This is a great use for Home Dec fabric, and we have lots of it!  We received the following note and photos from the folks at Saint Lucy's in Syracuse:

“Reaching out to let you know that the upholstery fabric you donated to our group, Sew Helpful, has become 37 market bags for Saint Lucy's food pantry in Syracuse. Beautiful fabrics turned into useful tools. Can't say enough good things about your organization and its mission!"

Experience FiberArt

We want to give a special thank you to Julie, Jessie and Marcia from Experience FiberArt. Participants of the Experience FiberArt event had a great time creating comfy pillows with their own personal photos digitized on fabric. The frame around the photo enhances the picture with a variety of textures and colors to complete this wonderful and very personal project. Thank you Experience FiberArt for hosting this workshop at SewGreen.

Class Projects

Judy and Sara are showing off one of the two Infinity Scarfs they made in the The Infinity Scarf class. Thanks Rosemarie for teaching this class on how to create a warm and cozy scarf just in time for the November cold spell.

A big thanks to Michelle (hiding behind her rug) for the amazing demonstration on Rug Hooking. Many people attended Michelle's demonstration and were quite impressed with her beautiful work. Pictured here are tools and techniques that Michelle uses to create a colorful hooked rug.

Pamela shared this photo of her granddaughters in dresses she made from SewGreen fabrics.

Serena finished her apron in Family Sew! Complete with custom handmade binding and button embellishment on the pocket! Customer Alaina came in to shop and show off her latest skirt made from fabric purchased at Sewgreen. Can't wait to see what she makes from the holiday fabric she bought today!

Four gorgeous  "Hidden Walls" quilt blocks, made by those who attended our November Quilt Block Class! Join the fun with Linda on the first Saturday of each month. The only prerequisite is to know how to sew a straight line on a sewing machine!
