With the rebirth of Spring, it seems only fitting that the premiere performance and book launch of Metamorphosis: A Healing Journey would blossom forth this April 27th and 28th, during Earth Week, with two performance at the Dave Dunnet Theatre, located in Oak Bay High School, 2121 Cadboro Bay Rd.
This collaborative, multi-media project features two live stage performances featuring flamenco and improv dancers from Lynda Raino Studios; two lyricists; a special ensemble of voices from the Victoria Philharmonic Choir, under the direction of Peter Butterfield; a leading Indigenous poet and performer; a 10-year-old “wild spirit”; a land defender; a Namgisan medicine woman from Alert Bay; the senior government liaison for Global Climate Emergency Response at the United Nations Institute for Water, Environment and Health; two professional photographers; plus a retired policy maker, now a musician, filmmaker and producer. All share cathartic living changing experiences that brought them to a metamorphosis in their healing journey.
The performance and book design and launch is under the direction of professional photographer/producer Frances Litman, on behalf of the Creatively United for the Planet non-profit society, in collaboration with Climate and the Arts founder, Jonathan O’Riordan.
This production is directed by Lynda Raino’s new creative director/owner, Monique Salez, an accomplished dancer, choreographer and storyweaver. Lynda Raino, the grand dame of dance, also provides an outside eye.
“For years, I voluntarily produced a zero waste Earth Week festival to bring the public together with artists and changemakers to explore positive solutions to address some of the greatest issues facing our communities. This is a new and exciting step forward that creatively unites us in our humanity and inter-relatedness with the planet. It promises to be an entertaining multi-media experience,” says CreativelyUnited.org community sharing hub founder, Frances Litman.
The 120-page art book will be available for view and sale before and after performance times with an opportunity to meet the artists and performers. It features photography, prose, poetry, artwork, quotes and even a resource section.
