CD5 Candidate Forum Results Melrose Safety ~ Attendees OVERWHELMINGLY Support Candidate SAM YEBRI |
Melrose Action held a candidate forum that had all 6 of our current CD5 candidates in attendance. The poll results were overwhelmingly in favor of Sam Yebri as the candidate that is best suited to address public safety in CD5. You can listen to the entire forum on YouTube by clicking HERE. As for the rest of the other candidates and their policy positions you can and should listen to what they have to say. If for on other reason than to be prepared and informed about each of them. |

For those of you that already signed up as supporters, you were treated to invitation-only events that included the Woman in Media Awards at Raleigh Studios and a special holiday party at Television City on Beverly Blvd. With a commitment to bringing almost 19,000 new jobs to our area and $2.4 Billion dollars in economic output, this can prove to be a real game changer for our neighborhood community. When discussing the major problems in our area in regards to finding GOOD PAYING JOBS, the TVC 2050 benefits page is pounding the table saying let us help here! When it comes to getting involved with on-the-job training, TVC 2050 has partnered with Woman In Media and their " CAMERAderie Initiative" for women seeking below-the-line production jobs. The initiative through its $1 million Changing Lenses pledge, promotes efforts to increase equity and diversity in the industry. Mobility, Traffic and Transit ~ "The TVC 2050 Plan will invest millions in transportation improvements to create a multi-modal mobility hub. It will connect studio workers and the neighborhood to a number of nearby transit options, including the Metro D (Purple) Line’s future Wilshire/Fairfax station, encouraging more efficient and sustainable ways to commute." Mid-City West NC - General Board ignores the pleas of many businesses and supports bus only lanes on La Brea Here's another great reason to attend a Mid-City West NC meeting. At the General Board meeting on November 9th, the entire board unanimously voted to support the Metro Bus Only Lane plan for La Brea. This proposal converts the "anti-gridlock" lanes into Bus Only Lanes and extends the hours of operation by 2 hours a day. Essentially making it that much harder for SMALL Businesses on La Brea to earn a living during the limited daytime 5 hours, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., to conduct business. CRAZY! Originally, there was even harsher anti-business wording in the letter to support the Bus Only lanes becoming 24/7! However, a motion made by our Zone 2 Rep, Nasim Kablan, to remove that language was passed by a narrow margin of 14 to 13, but not before Michael Schneider told his fellow board members that this letter of support and the 24/7 wording are ideals that this board ran on in their campaign, it's part of their "aspirational" desires and goals, ignoring the comments of almost a dozen businesses on La Brea that came to speak out against this. It seemed to me that he also has no cares at all about people in cars, commuting back to their homes and families in the suburbs, 10 to 20 miles away. Having to be stuck in heavier traffic while emitting MORE pollution is OK with him if it meant he could get a bus and bicycle lane installed onto La Brea by removing a traffic lane. So much for Schneider's talk about saving the environment! He also failed to address concerns for the local residents, which his board represents, on either side of La Brea in regards to the amount of additional cars that would be coming into their neighborhood because of cut through traffic or the increased parking on neighborhood streets that this would probably create. One member of the board even told me that the current restricted parking in the neighborhoods on either side of La Brea may need to be revoked! If you would like to review the General Board meeting and hear the discussion for yourself, it's recorded. Link here. https://bit.ly/3quSK36 These are my thoughts & opinions only. Shelby Blecker |

Mid City West Neighborhood Council & Melrose BID Meetings: |
We have brought this up before, but feel it's worth mentioning again... What brought you to sign up for our newsletters? We want to believe it is because you wish to learn what's going on and to participate in advocating for a safer and cleaner neighborhood. Most of you who receive this email live in Zone 2 or are affected by what happens on Melrose. This newsletter contains links to the meetings to sign up for the Melrose BID Crime meeting, most of the Mid City West Neighborhood Council meetings and the LAPD C-PAB meeting. Here's the important part: Neither the Melrose Bid or the MCWNC meetings have neighbors, referred to as 'stakeholders', attend very often. Most of the sub-committees for MCWNC have NO 'stakeholders' attend. So what happens when elected representatives get no input from those they are voted to represent? They go off and turn their attention to their own pet projects instead of advocating for the people and the neighborhoods they serve! So PLEASE get involved! If you find a meeting topic in the list above that you are interested in and if you can attend just ONE meeting to make a comment or offer support to someone making comment, it will make a difference! Tell them you are part of The Melrose Village Neighborhood Alliance! |
