TE PUKE REPERTORY SOCIETY

JUNE Newsletter 2020

The Winter Solstice was on 20 June and so from now we can look forward to longer days and within no time at all it will be summer again.

I am, indeed, the eternal optimist, which is just as well because we need a few things to fall into place in quite quickly in the next couple of weeks for our plans to come to fruition.

The Simply Short Play Festival

is planned for early August and we are short of 8 cast members!.

We are looking for

  • 2 young Maori or similar between the ages of 16-35 approx. Male and female - Heni - Heni & Neri
  • 1 Male 30 - 50 years approx - Let them Eat Cake - Harry Mole
  • 1 Male 16 - 30 years approx - Missing the Boat, Son - Young Man
  • 1 Male & Female 16 - 45 approx - Prince of a Man - Writer & Prince
  • ! Male & Female 30 - 50 approx - Once more with feeling - Young James & Meg

These plays are only 10 minutes and therefore its a great opportunity to have a go.  Not too many lines to learn and only 4-5 weeks of rehearsals.  Contact us as soon as possible tepukerep01@gmail.com

MULLED WINE AND POETRY EVENING

Saturday 18 JULY, 7.30 PM

An informal get together to share a drink, some poetry or verse, a few refreshments and good company.

BYO if you don't fancy our glogg.  Everyone welcome.

Contact tepukerep01@gmail.com if you require further information.

STARS ON STAGE:  The wonderful Di Leach is temporarily out of action but she'll come back like the six million dollar man hopefully soon.  Unfortunately, in the mean time the Stars of Stage School Holiday Programme is on hold.  We are wishing Di a speedy recovery and lots of aroha.

CHAIR SPONSORSHIP:  When the theatre had a seating upgrade several years ago it was decided to offer to our Theatre community Chair Sponsorship to recognise past and present patrons of Te Puke Repertory.  We have now decided that each chair will have an engraved label attached to acknowledge the sponsorship.  There about about 30 seats still available and if you would like to buy a chair or two to acknowledge someone special or a family please contact tepukerep01@gmail.com.  The cost of each chair sponsorship is $100.

ANECDOTES FROM THE PAST:

Final night pranks were always forbidden by the directors but they happened anyway.Actors would deliberately alter their lines or the fake wine would turn into the real thing. When Bill Crammond (playing the lawyer) opened his file to read the will in Rock-a-bye Sailor he discovered a Playboy centrefold.

When Tracey Blake presented me with a pot plant to cover my modesty for a nude painting in `Pull the Other One`the plant was reduced to a very small cactus for final night, much to the hilarity of the audience.
