Hello all you awe-inspiring subscribers and welcome to my August newsletter. Things have been busy over the summer having finished my Zadie jumpsuit, and I'm back to share an update on my latest WIP - the Ginger Jeans by Closet Core Patterns. I've had a jeans-themed couple of months, more about this below. I packed a few me-mades for a cruise in June including my Fiore Skirt, white t-shirt and Heather Blazer. The Fiore skirt was the first garment I made outside of the book Love At First Stitch which I learned to sew from, and so it has a special place in my heart. The simple white t-shirt is one of several made from a pattern used in an overlocker workshop at Guthrie&Ghani. The blazer served me well as a great cover up for the evenings where I wanted to look smart but not too formal. |

Making Your Perfect Fit Jeans I love attending workshops as this really accelerates my learning. I go with the attitude that I'm going to learn a lot, rather than I'm going to come away with a really great garment, but on my latest workshop I was thrilled to do both. I attended the Making Your Perfect Fit Jeans workshop at Guthrie&Ghani, choosing the Ginger Jeans, a skinny style with stretch denim. This was only my second pair of trousers, my first zip fly and I was bowled over by the result. My finished review will be ready next month, but here's a little preview. |

Draft Your Perfect Jeans The other workshop I attended was Draft Your Perfect Jeans at nearby sewing store Like Sew Amazing, to draft a jeans pattern using an already fitted trouser block. I was astounded by how comfortable a well-fitting pair of jeans could be, and came away with a complete pattern ready to sew. In contrast to the above, this is for a rigid denim so I now have a fitted pattern for both. Read my workshop review for more details. Does my bum look big in this? :) | | |

I sewed up the Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory Patterns, having attended a workshop to get it fitted and then applying a few tweaks afterwards. I had been saving some beautiful Japanese fabric gifted by my sister 2.5 years ago, and this seemed the perfect match. It made the project very special to me and I have worn it a lot, paired with the Heather Blazer for cooler days. My blog post includes all my fitting details, and what I would change on the next version (there will definitely be another!). |
