Mother Music

comes to me

Did I conceive Cantare Italiano or did it conceive me?

I wouldn't know.

For sure, any kind of orphanage in real life, be it involuntary or chosen, mostly gives way to the most splendid forms of adoption - if we only let it.

Motherhood is a deliberate choice of acceptance, that has per se nothing to do with being born women or being pregnant or becoming parents - at all.

Motherhood is the most deliberate choice we can make when we decide to be quiet and to accept - to say yes to - what is in our very origin: an unredeemable mark that is beyond past, present and future (the way TS Eliot perfectly puts it).

Motherhood is constantly rediscovering in ourselves the very brand of our origin, the sign which makes us originals instead of copies.

Loving such origin and accepting its love, is motherhood.

Because motherhood is a deeply mutual bond.

Motherhood is accepting to be (glorified as) a medium between something and something else, someone and someone else - but first of all between you and your original self.

That you are Beethoven, Leonardo, an Opera singer or a baker, at all times your origin is claiming you back to your future.

Mother of us all is Music, which we all receive in different ways, forms and degrees.

She'll speak to anybody who is willing to listen, she'll teach its laws and techniques, she'll gently rule with her harmony if we only let it speak its words of wisdom: and there will always be an answer.

She'll plant her seeds after making sure that we are well aware that the fruits do NOT belong to us.

Motherhood is selflessness in its very essence, indeed.

That is, at least, what Music taught me in our long, quiet conversations.

That is what I teach myself and others.

That there is no teacher.
There is just Music: let it be.
