behind the scenes

from the studio and home

Happy Friday and finally the beginning of Spring!! Even though the temperatures have gotten a little bit on the chilly side here in Chattanooga, I have been Loving all of the beautiful blooms. I hope you have been enjoying it where you are as well! :)

March was a pretty exciting month in the studio. I am so glad I came to the realization to grow crystals on some of my smaller pieces. It really has been a full circle activity of sorts, combining my love of sculpture, crystals, and science. Truly have been nerding out over here and I love it! I started out with just borax, which is the clear cubic crystals. Recently have stepped up to chrome alum and alum, which creates the most gorgeous homegrown amethyst. I love the alchemy of the entire process.

So 2 of last month's plasters have finally landed in their new resting places! I was able to donate the back half of the 'study of andrea' torso wall-hanging to the Hunter Museum of Art for their annual fundraiser Hunter Underground. It was such a fun event to be apart of and I was very pleased to find out my piece was one of the very first to go in their Heist Gallery!

'vola (she flies)' is now on view for the CHA Art Space Gallery at the Chattanooga Airport. Emergence runs from March 17 until mid-June.

**FUN FACT** The Tulip Festival in Amsterdam has a website that lists their believed symbolism of tulip color. Pink tulips are a symbol of caring and good wishes according to the Dutch.

from the home

This month we met the changing of the seasons with open arms. Its been so nice to take walks with Lupo again and be able to enjoy being out in the yard. Frisbee season has definitely started over here! As well as grilling season. (definitely the inspiration behind this month's recipe below) Sweet pup turned two this past week and we enjoyed a steak dinner with him to celebrate.

I really enjoyed doing some painting this month as well. I always paint flowers for my Grandmother on March 8th just as a meditation of remembrance and this year I spent the most lovely afternoon painting the wisteria in our yard. Living in Florence definitely played apart of me becoming forever obsessed with the delicate blossoms and heady scent, I had never been around it before then. It makes me so happy that it runs rampant in our neighborhood.

Okay- So because it is the start of grill season and I'm sure everyone is starting to be busier in their daily lives, I want to share my all time favorite way to have grilled chicken. The recipe is lovingly called "Papa J's Chicken" in my family (might be something different in yours) and it really is just as simple as marinating chicken breasts in Italian (salad) Dressing. And that's it. Marinate all day, overnight, an hour, it really doesn't matter...it will be THE best. **also recommend pairing with ears of corn and crescent rolls for the full experience**
