It’s been an exciting month for Voices of Mackellar.

We were thrilled to host this week’s webinar What's the Big Deal? A Federal Election Inquiry!  and have almost 200 people from communities all across Australia register!

Craig Reucassel, Saffron Zomer & Sheryl He with Committee member and moderator, Maree Nutt

We’ll have done our job well if submissions to the Parliamentary Inquiry continue to be received right up to the 7 October deadline, and people realise just how easy it can be to have their voices heard and counted.

Craig emphasised the importance of having your say to help shape the outcome and prompt genuine political donation reform from the Federal Government.

Saffron shared that the Parliamentary Committee leading this inquiry is keen to hear from the general public.

Sheryl showed some great examples of simple submissions to help people get people started.

For those who missed it - or want to share it -you can find a full recording of the webinar here:

We recommend you make your submission via the Australian Democracy Network website here:

  • You can also check out their FAQs for writing your submission.

And remember Sheryl’s 4 key writing tips:

  • It can be as simple as writing 1 - 2 paragraphs, no formalities required!

  • Stay focussed (you don’t have to address all the Terms of Reference).

  • Make a clear argument (personal experience or research). Big Deal is another great resource.

  • Make a recommendation for action (what change you want to see).

  • Don’t feel limited to writing your submission (e.g. you can make a video… but you’ll need to email it directly to the Committee at em@aph.gov.au).

[We held this webinar in response to our Mackellar Matters Report 2022 which ranked lack of transparency and accountability - especially linked to the area of political donors and lobbyists - as your #2 issue of concern.]
