What we're Reading this Week Rebecca The Broken Heart by Gudrun Frerichs I liked Daniel and Ashley, the main protagonists in this book, and they were believable characters. Ashley talks about communication at the beginning of the story but then fails to follow her own advice and jumps to conclusions, when it appears obvious Daniel is cheating, and escapes to the countryside. Most of the story takes place in a picturesque area of New Zealand that is lovely to read about and highlights the supportive community spirit of the small-town residents. One of our cousins lives in New Zealand and this book just intensified my hankering to visit someday!
The bulk of Ashley and Daniel's story involves unidentified villains seemingly set to destroy their relationship and peace of mind. I thought the strange events the couple faced were suspenseful and compelling. Faced with outside threats, the storyline takes a new and frightening turn. What we're Reading this Week Victoria Aimpoint by Candace Irving In this exciting military thriller, Special agent, Regan Chase, is assigned to go undercover to discover if a terror attack on Germany is planned. Her main suspect is Evan LaCroix, who hides his cunning behind a baby-faced facade. As Regan uncovers LaCroix’s background, she tries to get close to him, instead encountering his friend and roommate, Captain John Garrison. As a potential bombing becomes imminent, things get much more complicated as she finds herself falling for John. This book is full of action, high stakes, emotion and lots of twists and turns. It is very well-written and the author has a strong grasp of her subject matter. This is an amazing start to the series and I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the next books.
