behind the scenes

from the studio and home

Welcome to Spring!! Feels so nice to be back in my favorite season soaking up some sun and watching all of the garden come back to life. There really is nothing like it. I hope that everyone has been enjoying your Easter weekend :)

from the studio

It was so nice getting together with some of you at the Open Studio this past Friday night! I love being able to set up it up differently each time and add new pieces/pull things out from storage. I can guarentee that even if you are there at every Open Studio, it will get changed around :) Also, I am happy to offer a viewing appointment during the week if needed...just send me an email/connect with me on instagram to let me know!

Happy to share what those portraits from the first two hours have turned into. Well on our way to the finish line with all the big movements taken care of and onto moving around the small details. I have been able to complete a second session with one of the women but am not sure if the other will make it back so will just go off of what I have to call her portrait finished.

I might get a third portrait in before the timer is up on the studio space ( I hope!) but if anything doing a "residency-style project" with a non-profit has being a good learning experience in going with the flow. The variables are just always a'changing.

So with that being said, we have had to do a big pivot with the videographer and I will be excited to share whatever comes of that in the next few months.

On March 1st I had the pleasure of going to the Hunter Museum's big annual fundraiser, Hunter Underground. It is so amazing the way artists and creatives are hired to completely transform the museum for a night. Its always so nice to be able to donate a piece of work in honor of a good cause. This year, 'study of andrea | front wall hanging' was in the Heist Gallery.

It was so nice to draw in the sun again this month! These drawings have already been embellished with the gold leaf so they might appear shinier than in months before :) It really just depends on how the light is hitting it.

**FUN FACT** Forsythia symbolizes anticipation in the Victorian language of flowers. (bonus fun fact - my sister and I used to play pretend in the middle of two big forsythia bushes in our backyard next to the creek. It was where we had our 'kitchen' for mud pies and soups)

from the home

We had such a fun 36 hours in Nashville for a little date trip. It was a perfect day of going to the Frist, lunch at Union Station, then making our way through the 5th&Broadway Food Hall before a winning Preds game!

All of the exhibitions of work at the Frist right now are worth seeing! There is the work of Latoya M. Hobbs, an amazing painter and printmaker. Her work will completely submerse you into the carved wooden panels that are eight feet in height. Being such a tactile person, I was so obsessed with all of her mark making and just wanted to touch it! The 'Carving a New Tradition' exhibit will be on until April 28th, so you have another month to catch it.

Also on view is 'Monuments & Myths' comprised of work by two American sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French. Most of the pieces are from their personal homes and studios which was inspiring in so many ways. This will run until May 27th.

Here are some of my highlights.

I am so glad we made it through the month of March without a hard frost like last year. I love being able to add making a round to check on the plants to my morning routine. Today I noticed that i have some roma tomatoes already growing! Shout out to my friend Lynsay who told me I could just cover a fall one with dirt and it would come up the next year. I have quite a few growing in what now is a planter full of garlic! I have transplanted some but have too many - if you are local to Chatt and want a seedling or two let me know!

recipe of the month

I've been thinking about this meal since we had it over a month ago. It reminds me of ordering 'the chicken' at a nice restaurant because there is just so much flavor packed in and that drizzle sauce (!!!!) I just really can't get over it. It might help to have a smoker but I'm sure an oven can do this recipe justice. (If you make it, please let me know if it was an oversell or you thought it tasted just as elevated as I did)

Just click the photo to be linked to the recipe, smoked paprika chicken and chimichurri sauce.

We thought it paired perfect over roasted root veggies.
