Maybank Sustainability Day: UNGCMYB Case Study on MBB This month, our Executive Director, Faroze Nadar, presented a case study at Maybank's Sustainability Day in Bali, which was held in efforts to accelerate sustainability and enhance local community empowerment programmes. BPMB Certified Sustainability Manager Programme Module 3:2, 6:2 & Action Learning Lab Kick Off In August, we concluded "Module 3: Sustainability Performance Target Setting" and "Module 6: Reporting for Impact" of our Certified Sustainability Manager Programme with BPMP. Led by our Executive Director, Faroze Nadar, this 6-month programme is designed based on identified competencies in the UNGCMYB-Bursa Corporate Sustainability Practitioner Framework. Throughout the Module 3 & 6 session, key topics that were covered are SDG Ambition Benchmarks, sustainability performance enablers landscape, performance based target setting, ESG data analysis for impact, understanding reporting frameworks, and communicating sustainability disclosures. We also kicked off the Action Learning Project, which is a research oriented practical project where participants develop and implement a sustainability solution in their business unit. |

UNDP x UNGCMYB CEO Dialogue Session This August, UNGCMYB and UNDP Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam have jointly organized a CEO Dialogue session - “Leadership for the SDGs: Joining forces with the private sector for the ‘big push’ to get to the SDGs in Malaysia” in conjunction with UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator & Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia-Pacific, Ms. Kanni Wignaraja’s inaugural official visit to Malaysia. This session was co-moderated by both Mr Faroze Nadar, Executive Director, UNGCMYB and Mr. Niloy Banerjee, Resident Representative UNDP Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. Duopharma Board Training This month, we conducted a training session for the directors and board of Duopharma Biotech Berhad. While climate change poses an urgent threat to all nations, our workshop helps develop an understanding on climate governance and the role of the board in leading positive climate actions in corporates. We also identified risks and opportunities for climate action in corporates, and the key climate strategies and initiatives to achieve net zero. The workshop also provided participants with the ability to gain insight from industry best practices via real time case study. |

ACCESS Engagement with UNGCMYB Members & Procurement Team We held an engagement session with a group of procurement officers to introduce the Action Centre for Sustainable SMEs (ACCESS) Program and understand the challenges faced by its organization when engaging with its vendors and suppliers. The ACCESS Program enables SMEs to improve their sustainability readiness scoring, which is part of SME Corp’s SME Rating & Accreditation (SRA) scope, establish validated ESG data and construct an implementable enterprise sustainability plan. During the session, participants were given the opportunity to share their challenges in SME vendor engagement and discuss the actions that can help in building SME vendor awareness on sustainability and ESG. | | |

Climate Ambition Accelerator: GHG Practical Exercises This month, we held the Climate Ambition Accelerator (CAA) Programme session, SBTi and Net-Zero: Debrief and Discussion. The participants were given an overview of the SBTi Net Zero Standard and SBTi approach to net-zero GHG emissions to understand the criteria and requirements for the Net Zero Standard. In addition, they were given the opportunity to discuss the lessons learned, common challenges and opportunities, and analyse connections between GHG management and SBT requirements through a Q&A session with technical experts. | | |

UNGCMYB Johor Networking Session This month, we held our Members Networking Event themed "Moving Forward" in Johor. ZeroC Demo Session This month, we conducted a demo session on the ZeroC tool. A collaboration between UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei and TCS Malaysia produced an emission management platform that helps businesses measure their carbon emissions and reduce their carbon footprint. The tool has been built based on International Energy Agency (IEA) and Malaysian Emission Calculation Factors. Monitor your carbon emission with a one-stop dashboard and extend it to your ecosystem to drive a low-carbon supply chain. | | |

Action Centre for Sustainable SMEs (ACCESS) Demo Session In August, we held our Action Centre for Sustainable SMEs (ACCESS) Demo Session to help SMEs understand more about what our ACCESS Training and Development Programme can offer. The Programme is designed in partnership with SME Corp. Malaysia to improve business resilience and competitiveness by equipping SMEs with the ability to access and elevate current ESG maturity levels through a 6-month training and development programme that focuses on supply chain sustainability in which SME suppliers will be certified sustainability-trained, and the Corporate gets validated supply chain ESG data. | | |

Target Gender Equality Accelerator: Kick-off Session & Introduction to the WEPs Gender Gap Analysis Tool We held our first Target Gender Equality Accelerator, which aims to deepen the implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles and strengthen the contribution to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5.5. This goal calls for women’s full participation and equal opportunities for leadership by 2030. The program also included an introduction to the WEPs Gender Gap Analysis Tool, which gives participants a starting point through an assessment for gender-equality policies and practices in the workplace, marketplace and community. | | |

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yakoob highlights that the World Economic Forum’s Global Risk Report (WEF) 2022 calls attention to climate change, social polarisation and the social impact of the ageing population.
