Emergence

During a time of racial injustice we can no longer refute, a global pandemic, and with a list of uncertainties growing longer each day, keeping our eyes wide open has become a necessary trait for moving forward consciously and intentionally.

Change is inevitable. Old patterns, worn out behaviors, and binding systems that have proven unproductive, are no longer serving the current emerging humanity. So we learn how to let them go. As for me, I am thankful. I am hopeful. And I am ready to embrace whatever changes are required right now.

Buildout at The Hive is still in motion. Slow and steady feels like winning already. Last week we purchased a backdrop and lighting set for our photography nook, and an LED light ring tripod with microphone attachment for creating and uploading anything your creative mind can think up. This week we are pushing out a newsletter. As a mother, this feels very much like decorating a nursery and exercising pain tolerance in preparation of popping out a bundle of joy. Can you imagine if we had opened in January, as planned? Cringe. So, we wait. We trust the timing. We trust the path we are on, and we believe it is leading us to precisely the right moment of full, open-door emergence.

Delia and I have weathered through similar uncertainty ten years ago: living in a hospital, diagnosed with a disease, unable to gather with family, required to wear masks in public, and limited interactions with friends. We have practiced trusting, waiting, hoping and making intentional efforts to keep spirits up, daily. My husband, Michael, played college baseball. He relates resiliency to a well-worked baseball glove. The more it gets utilized, bent out of shape and conditioned - the better it gets at handling all kinds of curveballs.

This newsletter is a check-in with our faithful followers to this project called The Hive, and serves as a platform for diverse femme voices within our local community who are also weathering this time with unique perspective and brilliant experiences. We can't wait for you to read about them. We are all living proof that resiliency is here for us ALL, so grab a beverage that clinks with ice, and settle in to some fine reading.

SAY HER NAME:

Where we stand, at the intersection of race, gender, and other individual characteristics, can mean increased privilege - or it can apply increased discrimination. Kimberle Crenshaw, professor at Columbia Law School, breaks it down for us with much heart and necessary grit, in her Ted Talk: The Urgency of Intersectionality.
