This past month, because of Your kind heart, the Nachan Team in Uganda were able to deliver maize flour, rice, beans and handmade masks to the women and children of the Katwe slums in Kampala. Thank you for helping prevent our sisters and their children from starving and to also help quell the domestic violence that has increased in the slums. Unfortunately as food shortages increase so, too do incidents of violence against women. This is not only happening in the slums but globally.
The lock down continues which has made it very difficult to scavenge for food. One cannot travel outside ones home without a mask for fear of arrest or police brutality. We, all of you, who have donated funds and helped me with my project have given a reprieve to150women and children.
The challenge ahead lies in continuing to find relief for the women and children but also in addressing the trauma they experience now at being harassed and threatened as rumors are circulating in the area that they - the Karamajong - are spreading the Covid - 19 virus. This in not unlike what happened here in the U.S. with many Asian and Asian/American people being vilified, assaulted and threatened.
I am in contact every day with my team in Uganda and will keep everyone apprised through monthly newsletters as well as postings on social media.
May All Beings Be Safe. May All Beings Have Food. May All Beings Awaken to their true Nature. We are One People.
