15th Malaysian Hospice Council Congress (MHCC) |
|
|
The 15th Malaysian Hospice Council Congress (MHCC) was successfully held from the 25th to 27th July 2024 at Kingwood Hotel, Sibu, Sarawak, organized by The National Cancer Society Malaysia - Sarawak Branch and MHPCC with a theme of "Strengthening Connections and Collaborations in Palliative Care," the congress brought together healthcare professionals, volunteers, and individuals passionate about palliative care from across Malaysia and beyond. Based on registration data, there were 615 delegates 578 delegates from Malaysia 37 international delegates from USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, India, Myanmar, UAE, Indonesia and Pakistan
The congress was officially launched by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian. It also featured international experts including Dr. M.R. Rajagopal from Pallium India, Assoc. Prof. Jaclyn Yoong (Monash Health Services), Dr. Frank Ferris (American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)) and SR Geraldine Tan (Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Home, Singapore) as well as local experts Dr. Richard Lim Boon Leong (Head of Subspecialty for Palliative Medicine in Ministry of Health Malaysia), Datuk Seri Dr T. Devaraj, the founding chairperson of our council (MHPCC), Dr. Ednin Hamzah (CEO of Hospis Malaysia) and Former Chair of the Asia Pacific Hospice Network – APHN) and Dr. Mary Cardosa (Consultant Pain Physician and President-Elect of the International Association for the Study of Pain – IASP). |

The MHPCC BGM was also held during the 15th Malaysian Hospice Council Congress 2024. We are delighted to introduce the new members of the MHPCC Board. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank our former outgoing board members who have worked together with us from 2022 to 2024. |

In conjunction with the 15th Malaysian Hospice Council Congress, we are introducing the MHPCC Wall of Honours. We would like to celebrate important figures who have helped build palliative care and hospice in Malaysia to what it is today. | | |

The Launch of ACP Guidance in Malaysia |

YB Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health has launched the first National Guidance on Advance Care Planning in conjunction with the 15th MOH-AMM Scientific Meeting in 2024 at the National Institute of Health, Shah Alam, Selangor on 20th August 2024. With the theme "Honoring Patients’ Wishes and Improving Quality Care Towards the End-of-Life”, this guidance came together from multiple disciplines to prioritize patients' care in a holistic manner. This group was lead by Dr. Richard Lim Boon Leong, the Head of Subspecialty for Palliative Medicine in the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. |

SunMed Palliative Care Forum and Bazaar |

Leading up to World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, Sunway Medical Centre proudly hosted a “Palliative Care Forum and Bazaar” on September 4, 2024. A highlight of the day was a forum moderated by Dr. Caryn Khoo, Sunway’s Palliative Care Consultant. The panel featured a distinguished group of experts - including Dr. Richard Lim and Dr. Munirah, who are also current board members of MHPCC. The event showcased a diverse range of booth exhibitions, featuring esteemed partners from NGO Hospices and palliative care units from government hospitals in Klang Valley and even Hospital Batu Gajah. MHPCC also opened a booth to advocate for education, training and support for hospice organizations. At our booth, we sold copies of our 25 Year Chronicles, The Handbook of Palliative Medicine (2nd Edition), The Care We Share booklet and other merchandises such as Pens and Pins featuring MHPCC logo. |

MAPPAC Charity Night 2024 |

The Malaysian Association of Paediatric Palliative Care (MAPPAC) hosted a successful charity night on 28th September 2024 to raise funds and awareness for children with life-limiting illnesses. The event brought together generous individuals, businesses, and organizations to support MAPPAC's mission of providing compassionate care to these children and their families. Event Highlights include a gala dinner, fundraising activities, entertainment, performances and sharing of inspiring stories. The event was also attended and officiated by 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐘𝐁 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐤 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢 𝐃𝐫. 𝐇𝐚𝐣𝐢 𝐃𝐳𝐮𝐥𝐤𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐝, and the 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠, 𝐘𝐁 𝐓𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐮 𝐀/𝐋 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧. This year, we are bringing the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day Event to the beautiful Penang Island! The event will be officiated by YB Puan Lim Hui Ling, the Deputy Finance Minister of Malaysia.
