Can Your Veggie Garden Survive Climate Change? What About the Birds, Bees and Butterflies? |
Come down to the Windsor Town Green Community Garden Saturday, Aug. 10, between 9 a.m. and noon to learn about food gardening in times of climate change, or take a tour of the blossoming Community Pollinator Garden, or get your questions answered by Master Gardeners. The free, family event is Windsor Garden Club's Summer Open House at the Community Garden. Sonoma County Master Gardener Food Specialists will be giving a workshopn from 9 to 11 a.m. about how to grow a healthy food garden as our climate changes, bringing more extreme heat waves and extreme rainstorms to Sonoma County. |

The talk will conclude with a walk through the Windsor Monarch & Pollinator Garden next to the Community Garden. If you miss the formal presentation and garden Q&A walk, no worries. Windsor Garden Club hosts will be in the Community Garden and the Pollinator Garden that morning, ready to take your questions. The Windsor Butterfly & Pollinator Garden is open to the public for wandering anytime between sunrise and sunset. It's off the Town Hall Parking Lot just north of the Town Green Community Garden fence. Look for the flowers, bushes, and the plant identification sign.
The pollinator garden is two years old and blossoming, drawing Monarch and Swallowtail butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. It's a joint project of the Windsor Garden Club and the Healdsburg Pollinators. The groups planted it intending to inspire local residents to use native California plants that will attract and feed positive pollinator species.
Public access to the fenced Town Green Community Garden is usually limited to WGC's quarterly "Open Garden" events, public workshops and talks hosted by the Windsor Garden Club and UC Master Gardeners. However, the community garden is also available by appointment for school field trips and other supervised educational events. Contact us at officers@windsorgardenclulb.org for questions about field trips. |
