INSIDE HLC - WINTER 2024

It's hard to believe we are halfway through our year already! We've been enjoying watching the students grow personally and with each other. Our discussion groups are meaningful as students become more comfortable with each other and can share their experiences and encourage the other students.

At the beginning of January, we held an all-day planning meeting with our staff and Board members to determine future areas of growth for HLC and how we can continue to serve our current families to the best of our ability. We are grateful for the time and expertise our board members offer us and look forward to sharing some of the things we are working on soon. Check out our updated website for program news.

Start gathering your "good stuff!" Our next scheduled drive is Saturday, April 6, from 9 - 11:30 AM at Hope Learning Center! During this time HLC will also be open for anyone who would like to see the space, including prospective students. Light refreshments will be available. If you would like a donation flyer for your workplace, please let us know and we will get one to you. Let's fill another truck for Good Stuff Thrift! All proceeds directly support HLC.

SKILLS: Current Teaching Series

This year for Group 1 (16 - 19 year-old students) we are focusing on students understanding who they are as young adults with autism and how they interact with the world. Along with developing awareness of self, they participated in activities to help increase confidence and develop practical skills to be used in everyday situations. Group 1 just completed classes on communication, friendships, and relationships and is moving into understanding our learning style and advocating in our education. Our Group 2 students (20 - 24 years old) will be participating in a teaching series entitled "Your Night to Shine." We are continuing to build confidence and skills in our students by allowing them to teach each other about a specific area that they have mastered. We are thrilled to be having some of our older students return to Group 2 to share their progress in a particular area.

CONNECTIONS: Open Houses scheduled for Area Professionals

If you are an area professional, we want to connect with you! We scheduled two Open Houses for area professionals to see our facility and hear about our program. We want to continue to develop partnerships and serve as many college-able young adults as possible. If you want a flyer to share with others please let us know. Please RSVP by March 13 to: HLCPerkasie@gmail.com

Please note this is for professionals only. We will announce Open House dates for prospective students in the spring.

Thank you for your continued interest and support!
