Prayer & Savings Corner
It is not always easy to save. If you are like I was for the last 20 years, you were scrambling just to keep a roof over your families heads, food on the table, and gas in the tank to get to work.
It is important during those times to keep your eyes on the cross. When others - albeit with good intentions - "Help" you see that all you must do is save during those lean times, tell them you are doing just that.
What we can do in the worst of times, is to "save," or rather store up our treasures in heaven. We must keep a balanced perspective about what our treasures truly are, and what really matters in the end.
If you are unable to do any traditional savings right now, start your own "TIP" jar. The kids can decorate it for you. Each time you have a few pennies left over from groceries, or someone finds change on the street, pop them in that jar.
Set a goal when to cash it in with your family. End of Summer? End of Fall? Right before Christmas? Give yourself a goal and watch those savings grow. When you get to your end date go cash it in. The fun part is deciding where and when.
Do you open a family savings account, or purchase a well-deserved dinner out for your family? Do you help a neighbor in need, or donate it to charity? Do you use it for Christmas gifts? Whatever you choose, it will bring great satisfaction knowing you saved together and made a spending choice together - whether it was $5 or $500.
While this sort of savings is small, the satisfaction in doing something that is thoughtful and well-earned is huge. Even better are the treasures you will store in heaven if you use those for the good of another.
In Christ's Great Love,

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”
