2020 has been a busy year for Food Futures Company. Like many other small businesses we needed to adapt to a COVID world, moving all of our programs to virtual delivery and our team to be working fully remotely across Australia.
Food Futures Company launched the first accelerator in Australia for the native ag+food space and have many initiatives planned for 2021. Lots of lessons were learnt, and we look forward to implementing these in the new year!
As we dig deeper as a profit-for-purpose business, our why continues to expand. Founder, Dr Christine Pitt formulated our 'Theory of Change' and for the native ag+food sector, it centres around taking a holistic approach to achieve significant growth for the industry. This whole of 'system-based approach' strives for transparent, ethical value chains through advocating appropriate benefit sharing, increasing innovation across the value chain and business models, creating opportunities for capability-building and supporting research and technology adoption. Increased participation and engagement of Australia’s First Nations people in all areas of the sector’s growth will be critical to its future.
Meanwhile, the recently graduated cohort have gone on to not only raise revenue but have increased their level of impact through benefit-sharing, with some even adopting social enterprise models.
