Hi Friends, Happy summer! I hope it is off to a fantastic start. Last month (instead of creating and sending a newsletter) I took my own advice and spent the end of May and first part of June with my husband; camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and exploring beautiful places. We met up with friends we hadn't seen since before COVID in Acadia National Park, then spent time in the Adirondacks, finger lakes, and Letchworth State Park. I didn't open my computer! What are your plans this summer? The season is short. Get outside. Explore natural places. Socialize with friends and family (we celebrated my father's 86th birthday on June 30th with a lobster feast). Enjoy a local play or musical. View an art exhibition. Try something new. Excite your senses! Summer is a great time to dial in your nutrition and adjust eating habits too. Check out your local famers' market for incredibly fresh and delicious produce. |

Summer Veggie Quinoa Bowl I love simple salads full of summer garden veggies. This salad is easily modified to include whatever is in your garden or at the farm market. Make a batch and enjoy several days for lunch or bring to a picnic. | | |

Safe Sun Exposure Practices Enjoy the outdoors and benefits of sunlight exposure while minimizing risks. Avoid sunburn. Use physical barriers: hats, clothing, and sunscreen. Many sunscreens contain chemical compounds that can disrupt the endocrine system, cross the blood-brain barrier affecting neurons and/or react with sunlight to form reactive oxygen species and carcinogenic. Choose mineral-based sunscreens with natural ingredients. I like Joshua Tree Sun Protection and am trying another brand that uses organic grass-fed tallow as its base, Sky and Sol. Support your skin from the inside by eating foods rich in carotenoids such as carrots, sweet potato, kale, papaya, red grapefruit, red/orange/yellow sweet bell peppers, and tomatoes, spinach, watermelon, and red cabbage.
