Dear Round-Up Readers, A week of ups and downs…so let's get the downs out of the way first: the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, the largest banking failure since 2008. ICYMI another bank, Silvergate, with crypto exposure from the blow-up of FTX, also had to shut down. CNBC estimates these two closures have wiped $70 Billion off of the crypto market in the last 48 hours. This is all unraveling now and how it will impact the greater economy and hospitality is TBD. Sadly, I did see one western-based hotelier, Moniqua Lane, lament about having to scramble to cover payroll on LinkedIn because her processor used SVB. Let's hope the FDIC and US government can stabilize the situation and contain the fallout. See note in podcast section for more. The ups? All the energy and big appreciation for women #IWD2023! The volume of photos shared on LinkedIn truly lift the spirit! Did your company or women's org do something cool? I am compiling a pictorial round-up story so send it to me! In London, there were two fab events for women in hospitality on IWD, one organized by Boutique Hotelier and the other by Hilton F&B VP Emma Banks and Chef Sally Abe and her all-female team at The Pem in the Conrad Hilton. The following day, I moderated a panel with female leaders from Hyatt Hotels at an employee event with about 100 people, which was incredible! Another BIG UP? Our two-year anniversary and the chance to reflect on lessons learned from the 350 + articles on hertelier, read about the top 7 leadership skills successful women share! And, hertelier has been selected as a finalist for a TravMedia award!!! Out of a pool of 700 entries (across several categories, but still!) we are up for "Trade Publication of the Year"!! Thank you to our Round-Up sponsor, Extended Stay America! Interested in becoming a sponsor? Email me. Women were front and center in the news this week, so let's get to it!
