August 2022

We are beyond excited to share all of the upcoming events, recent activities and news from Waunakee Community Cares Coalition. Our work is focused on keeping Waunakee healthy and resilient.  We do this by engaging, empowering, and educating our community in the spaces of alcohol, drug, & nicotine prevention, as well as mental health. In our monthly update, we will offer content, ideas and action steps to engage in this impactful work. Each month will bring strategies and ideas on how to keep Waunakee healthy and resilient.  We hope to grow a community of like-minded members to create a better place for us all to live healthy, love abundantly and leave healthy legacies.

Much gratitude, WCCC Team

In the month of August, the WCCC celebrates our collaboration with our community. Keeping our community safe, healthy, and resilient takes everyone. WCCC currently collaborates with over 20 organizations to build a healthy community. These sectors include; health care professionals, local government leaders, business leaders, faith community, civic organizations, local media, police, schools, parents, and so many more.

This summer was focused on collaborating with our community. This important work included working with our festival leaders to utilize best practices in our beverage tents. The WCCC was able to coordinate security, ID scanners, fencing, wristbands, and investing in some picnic tables for all to use. We also worked with our schools to plan for an upcoming year inspiring, connecting, and educating our youth.

It was an honor to also be chosen as the Grand Marshal for the Waunafest Parade. Members of our coalition led the parade with enthusiasm and positive energy. We passed out bracelets embossed with the message "Better Together", Smarties candies to encourage "smart decisions", and educational post cards for the adults sharing our good work. Connecting and collaborating with our community is a priority and we look forward to more engagement this upcoming year.

Wishing you health, resiliency, and the magic found in connection.  Thanks for ENGAGING in our work!

Each month the WCCC plans to showcase one of our amazing partners that are doing impactful work and serving our community in our theme for the month.  This month we showcase Roberta Baumann from the Waunakee Tribune.

She is a fierce champion of our youth in the community and is always out and about in the community celebrating ALL that makes Waunakee unique.

Roberta grew up in New York, then attended Iowa State University to earn her master’s degree in English. After moving back to New York for three years, she and her husband, Tim, returned to the Midwest and settled in Waunakee. Today they live in the town of Vienna with their three cats. What we are reading, watching, or listening to?

This month we are featuring Board Member Roger Bartels, Lieutenant from the Waunakee Police Department, who has played an important role in our festivals this summer, especially in integrating our new I.D. scanners.

"My favorite TV show is FBI. I enjoy most crime drama-type shows, but this one is my favorite. I enjoy watching how they can work together as a team to solve complex crimes and locate the suspect/s. I think given the fact that I have been in law enforcement for about 25 years is why I enjoy watching these types of shows. I do also enjoy watching sports, WI Badgers (football, basketball, volleyball) GB Packers and Milwaukee Brewers when I can."
