MFO September 2021 Newsletter

September school holidays, warmer weather, longer sunlight hours, another week to celebrate our 2020 Paralympians and Father's Day. Spring is now here!

Thanks to Gold Coast Show Society President Josephine Tobias for inviting Multicultural Families Organisation staff, volunteers and community members to attend an afternoon tea reception at the Broadwater Parklands. The show also features some art works by some of our very talented MFO artists Esmeralda Maximo, @EyeCraveArt and Israel Oletho.

We even met 10 cent Tom, our Gold Coast recycling Champ!

Over 120,000 people attended the weekend as COVID restrictions eased in Qld.

Keep safe everyone, please follow the health guidelines.

Meet our MFO team. Profile #2

Hei hei!
My name is Karri, I am from Norway, and along with my fantastic colleagues at MFO, we run a Youth Anti-Discrimination Program in schools on the Gold Coast.
By the end of the year, we will have spoken to 1000 kids in year 5, 6, and 7. So far, it has been an absolutely beautiful experience to see how welcoming, open-minded and curious the kids in our communities are. Alongside Queensland Police Service, Queensland Human Rights Commission, and community engagement coordinators from Gold Coast SUNS and AFL Queensland, we have covered stereotypes and their potential harm, multiculturalism, anti-discrimination laws & human rights, leadership, and finally how we can all be active bystanders in safe ways if we see discrimination around us.

Kids are the future, and after meeting the kids on the Gold Coast, the future looks bright!

A solution for Excess Plastics Packaging after 1 Sept 2021.

If you have excess plastics-straws, cutlery, plates and bowls and expanded polystyrene cups and containers, we now have a solution to ensure these items don't go to waste. The Great Plastic Rescue is an initiative that collects those banned plastic items and will get them recycled.
