SEPTEMBER 2024 Updates from STUDIO HROMI |

Months after moving, I finally decorated the walls of my office, and it's easily my favorite room in the house (it better be, I spend a lot of time in here). This corner features a vintage anatomy classroom poster that I won at the Vesalius Trust auction at the AMI conference, and a planetarium show poster by Grand Rapids artist Stephanie Ellis. |

Summer is ending, and have to admit that I don't feel like I had much of a summer (not that I'm much of an outdoorsy summery person, but still). Between moving, prepping for the CMI exam, and adopting kittens, life was packed full of responsibilities these last four months. Speaking of kittens... You may recall that in last month's newsletter I said that they weren't yet allowed in my office. Well we finally opened up the rest of the house to them recently, and they've really taken to bothering me while I work (they especially love to nap behind my computer, where I imagine it's very cozy and warm). It's a wonder I'm able to get anything done. |

Last month I announced that there would be some new "Places We Have Loved" prints coming soon. Well, I stocked them all right before Eastown Streetfair, then promptly sold out of many of them. That event was a whirlwind to say the least, and was my best market to-date--THANK YOU so much to everyone who came through. With that said, if you missed out on getting your favorite Grand Rapids landmark at ESF (particularly Yesterdog, Wolfgang's, and Wealthy Theatre), everything is now back in stock! You can recommend your own favorite places at this survey link. If I receive enough of the same request, you just might see it as a future print. Or if you want something one-of-a-kind, learn more about custom homes and/or buildings here. |

Below is some interesting and illuminating content I've collected in the last month related to art, science, and visual communication. |

|
The Thing Artists Don't Talk About Artist Michele Banks writes about her experience that the joys and sorrows of art-making are celebrated, while the honest transparency about the realities of art-selling is emphatically not... |

Disrupting Ableism and Advancing STEM: Rooting out Bias and Barriers This virtual session focused on the need to decrease bias and eliminate barriers to facilitate full participation of people with disabilities in the STEM workforce. Discussions focused on the need to critically examine environments to find the structures, policies, and attitudes that limit participation... |

MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION PROJECT SPOTLIGHT |
|
|
I recently finished a series of periodontal illustrations for Dr. Kevin Murphy and Dr. Edward P. Allen for a publication on the treatment of deep gingival recession. The side-by-side illustration below shows different perspectives of the mentalis muscle, whose location may impact the stability of gingival graft during said treatment. See more of my medical illustration portfolio at hromibiomedical.com/work. |

Phew, it's been a busy summer market season. There's only one more event currently on my calendar in the near future. Catch me at Last Sundays at Bridge Street Market on September 29, more details at studiohromi.com/events. You can also shop anytime online at studiohromi.com/shop and Redbubble, and while supplies last at Scorpion Hearts Club and the GRPM Curiosity Shop in Grand Rapids, and Half Mile Handmade in Bay City. I'm currently looking for one or two additional local or regional spots to sell my wares, so if you have ideas for shops that would be a good fit please pass them along! |

You can follow me on any of the social media platforms below, plus Tumblr, Threads, and Cara. I'm not very active on social media lately, but I pop in occasionally to say hello. Check out my Ko-fi and Amazon book wish list for even more ways to support an independent artist and small business. |
