YCL E-NEWS January 2022

Have a Look at What’s New for York County Library!

Totally Cool Winter Reading Challenge • December 13 – January 31

It's back! This winter, YCL has joined Zoobean in partnership with sponsor Lerner Publishing Group for "Read for a Better World," Beanstack’s annual Winter Reading Challenge. Help us read at least 2 million minutes for a chance to win prizes for yourself, and book collections, autographed books, and virtual author visits for the library! Sign up at yclibrary.org/wrc or at your local library, and follow the challenge via #WinterRead2022 on social media!

It's Here! Come See YCL's New Outreach Van!

The Library's Outreach Van has arrived! Featuring a wheelchair-accessible ramp and rolling carts that can be taken into facilities for indoor lobby visits, this new van carries books, CDs and DVDs, magazines, video games, and more to residents in York County communities.

The Outreach staff is thrilled to have its much-anticipated vehicle on the road and invites you to help them celebrate its arrival with a ribbon-cutting and refreshments at the Main Library! A date and time for the ceremony will be announced soon. Please check yclibrary.org and Facebook for updates, and for more about the Outreach Department, visit yclibrary.org/outreach.

The purchase of this van was made possible by a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the South Carolina State Library, as well as funds from the Friends of the York County Library.

New Look for Main Library Children's Department

On December 15, the Main Library Children's Department got a long-awaited makeover! Included were a new reference desk, shelves, and shelf end panels, each with an attractive cherry wood finish, and new computer desks for children. Stop by and check out the new look, and watch for more improvements throughout the building in January!

Family Storytime in the Park

Join us at Miracle Park on Monday, Jan. 3, from 4–4:30 p.m. for an outdoor, family-friendly storytime filled with stories, songs, and more. Come early to check out books from the Bookmobile! No registration is required, and children of all ages are welcome. Miracle Park is located at 1005 Eden Terrace in Rock Hill; storytime will be held in the picnic area near the playground. For more information, see the Events Calendar.

Home Access Ends for Ancestry Library Edition

In March 2020, access to Ancestry Library Edition was expanded during Covid-19 shutdowns to allow home access for YCL patrons. After nearly 2 years of this temporary benefit, Ancestry made the difficult decision to end it, and, as of January 1, Ancestry Library Edition can only be accessed within the Library.

Income Tax Forms Available Soon

YCL will once again offer limited Federal tax forms to the public, although we currently do not have an expected arrival date. We encourage you to visit the IRS website to view, download, print, and order your Federal tax products online. No paper state income tax forms will be available. We will also provide a helpful handout with resources for finding tax forms and assistance. Please continue to check yclibrary.org for updates.
