You have a vision.

Let's make it real.

Planning for 2021? Ask This Question.

Why?

No, not why are you planning? (Is it unprofessional to include a lol?)

Why are you adding a particular project or item to your list?

It’s easy to decide something is a good idea without actually thinking through all its requirements and ramifications.

It’s also easy to throw projects on your list that have been nagging at you for longer than you care to admit.

But asking the right questions early on increases the chances you'll spend your time, energy and money on the right projects.

Why? is actually shorthand for:

  • Why do we want to do this?
  • Are we sure we’ve defined the problem/task accurately?
  • Are we sure this is the best solution for the problem/task?
  • How does it fit into our overall program?
  • Is it still timely?
  • What do we know? What don’t we know?
  • What are our goals?
  • What resources will it require?
  • Is it worth the time and expense?

I apologize for phrasing some of these as yes or no questions. They’re really not. They’re conversation starters to help you get and stay on track.

Sometimes it’s easier to bounce your ideas off a sounding board. I'd love to help! Sign up for a complimentary discovery session!

Here’s a sampling of work I did during the last month:

  • Interviewed potential "ideal clients" for a coaching firm that’s restructuring its offerings.
  • Reviewed updates to a client’s website and suggested a way to better showcase their publications and presentations.
  • Revised an elephant refuge’s mission statement.
  • Edited a blog post on the secret sauce of successful teams to clarify the themes and strengthen the voice.
  • Helped a client decide which of two end-of-year appeals was most effective.
  • Reviewed a newly redesigned website for usability, readability and visual appeal.

Best wishes for a healthy, happy holiday season and a creative, productive 2021. Better days are ahead!
