Celebrating Millets! September is observed as the Nutrition Month or Poshan Maah in India. This year, we celebrated by launching our All About Millets campaign. Millets are 'nutricereals' which are good for you, the planet and the farmer. Millets are rich in various nutrients, grow with relatively less water and chemical input, and can withstand harsh climatic conditions. While millets are ancient grains that were commonly consumed in India, they have largely been replaced by wheat and rice today. We present the All About Millets series to bring back the goodness of millets in each and every household of India. Learn about millets - their origin, types, nutritional value, history and some mouth-watering recipes!

Supporting Relief Efforts for Migrant Workers As the unlock process started in India, we closed our project with 'NALSAR for Migrant Workers’ to provide relief to workers across India affected by the COVID-19 lockdown and other calamities. The project supported meals for 4,000+ people, ration for 2,000+ families, health kits for 800+ families, and travel for 750+ workers through flights, buses and trains. The support reached people far and wide, from Gujarat to Assam, and Delhi to Kerala. We are very grateful to our donors, partner organizations and volunteers for their massive support in this effort.

Meet Satish Patil Volunteer and Beneficiary, Talwade village, Raigad district, Maharashtra "We never benefit from relief efforts due to our remote location; this is the first time we got such assistance." "The Nisagra cyclone that hit us on 3 June 2020 caused a lot of damage. Many houses were completely destroyed - they just flew away like leaves! The cyclone worsened the economic hardship that we were already facing due to COVID-19. |

Despite our challenges, we did not get any help from anyone even after a month. But as part of the Nalsar for Migrant Workers project, we received solar lamps, tarpaulin sheets and ration kits from Foodshaala Foundation and The Resilient Foundation. This support has been very critical in times of crisis. The problem of electricity is very common in our villages, so the solar lamps will be very useful even in future. Because our villages are located in remote parts of the district, we never benefit from any relief work. This is the first time that we got such a huge assistance. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart on behalf of our 10 villages." |
