Holy Week & Easter Dearest Holy Comforter Family, Final preparations are underway for Holy Week and Easter. Your staff has our sights set on jelly beans, cascarones, as well as palms, incense, and everything else that invites us into the deep mystery and sorrow of Holy Week and then into the utter joy of the Sunday of the Resurrection. Along those lines, today, we received the following invitation from the Church of the Good Shepherd: The Church of the Good Shepherd will again observe Good Friday with a Service of Lessons and Spirituals that draws on liturgies and prayers from the Book of Common Prayer and the many African-American spirituals influenced by the story of the Passion of our Lord. In addition to singers from the congregation and congregational signing, soloists will include Celia Porea, Nan Hastings Hornsby, and Quincy Hall. The service will be at 3 PM on March 29th. We have scheduled this service at 3 o’clock both because of the Gospel traditions and to avoid scheduling conflicts with other Episcopal Churches in the area, for which noon and evening times are more common for this and related liturgies. We invite you and the members of your parishes to consider an experience of the Good Friday liturgy at Good Shepherd—where spirituals are part and parcel of the living tradition. We would welcome your sharing this invitation in your Sunday bulletins and weekly newsletters. Since this is the only additional Holy Week service we will have, we are encouraging the members of Good Shepherd to explore the rich opportunities for observing Holy Week in other Episcopal churches in the area.
The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd is located in the historic Centennial Hill community of Montgomery at 493 South Jackson Street.
I think this will be a beautiful service and hope you will consider attending! See you Sunday! Rosa+ |

the Lansing Michigan Catholic High School visit April 1 - 7, dinner April 3 The Lansing Michigan Catholic High School visit is coming up. For almost 30 years a group of high school youth have spent their Spring Break coming to Montgomery to help those in need through Rebuilding Together. They are coming with 43 folks packed with hammers, nails, tools, and talent to do good work around our city. This year they are bringing their mattresses and pillows to stay with us at Holy Comforter. They are arriving Monday, April 1 with an early departure Sunday 7. Showers have been arranged at the Midtown YMCA. We will host a dinner for them with The Ascension on Wednesday the 3rd. If you helped in the past, you know what a great group this is and your help would be welcomed, please let me know. More to follow later, Amy |
