Hello all you exquisite subscribers and welcome to my January newsletter. Thank you for all the lovely replies I had about my checked Eden Coat, I knew all you sewers would appreciate the pattern matching :) |

As previewed in December, I completed the review of my velvet Zadie Jumpsuit. It's had a lot of interest where I've shared this already, but in case you missed it there's more about this below. I've also shared a simple project where I shortened a rtw pleated skirt. Nice and easy but oh so satisfying. |

Having made my first Zadie last summer in cotton, I was inspired by a velvet version I'd seen, perfect for more formal events. It was my first time sewing with velvet, so my review includes a summary of the advice out there and what my experience was. I hacked the pattern to avoid the satin binding from 'pointing' to the crotch, and to create these gorgeous gathered full-length sleeves. Click below to see all the details and lots more photos. |

Shortening a pleated skirt |
|
|
I bought a lovely maroon satin pleated skirt but it was a little too long, and so I did a simple alteration to shorten it and replicated the original rolled hem. | | |

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a workshop really close to home at the Bristol School of Sewing and Textiles. It was for a bomber jacket, the New Look 6545. It was a garment that I didn't think of adding to my wardrobe until I had seen some really lovely versions in more formal fabrics like silk, satin, jacquard and lace. I had some embroidered chambray in my stash which made for a great new take on a denim jacket. More on this next month. |
