RWR Meeting Cancelled.

Does Douglas County care about the views of San Luis Valley residents?

Douglas County Commissioners cancelled the upcoming Public Forum Meeting at Ski Hi in Monte Vista on Saturday, March 26th.

The meeting would have been to discuss the RWR Water Proposal to take 22,000 acre feet of water from the Valley per year with local residents.

Students from the Justice Heritage Academy in Antonito, CO painted signs expressing their frustration with the RWR Proposal in anticipation of the meeting.

The Douglas County commissioners canceled their scheduled “live town hall” after Laydon and Commissioner George Teal expressed disappointment and concern that it was being turned into a “circus” and “protest” event.

Important Article

Abe Laydon and George Teal will likely be coming to the Valley on March 26th, but will meet with public officials separately as individuals (so there won’t be an official quorum), and Teal has expressed interest in visiting the proposed wellfield that Renewable Water Resources has identified on the northern end of Valley, near the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.  We do not know if there will be any semblance of a public meeting, so please stay tuned.
