Dear all, I'd like to share with you details of events and activities in a newsletter that -depending on my different projects and trips- you should receive regularly. After a busy early fall with the release of SUN DEW's new EP on Heartcore Records, followed by a European tour (Casa da Musica, Elbphilharmonie, Fête de l’Huma...), a premiere with the trio of jazz pianist Gauthier Toux + string 4tet, some concerts in Germany with the Israeli musician Shaul Bustan, Pop singer Anna Marlene and the Kammerjazz Kollektiv, here's some infor-mation about what I'm doing in the next few weeks. All the best, Héloïse. |

▪ Meeting with German pianist and ECM artist Julia Hülsmann ▪ Next week, I'll have the pleasure of joining the Julia Hülsmann's Octet for two concerts in the prestigious studios of the Hamburg radio NDR. I met Julia at a concert I gave at G.Neumann Saal at the Jazz-Institut Berlin two years ago. She invited me to join her Octet, a project in which she brings together three different cultures: those of Angolan singer Aline Frazão, Norwegian singer Live Maria Roggen and German singer Michael Schiefel. Mixing jazz, Portuguese lyrics and Scandinavian folk, the project is based on a double trio where the piano is alternately combined with the rhythm section (bass/drums) or the string section (violin/cello). It was a delight to share the stage with these fantastic musicians, including Stefan Braun, a renowned jazz cellist (who replaced the no less excellent Suzanne Paul). Check out this line-up via the video below, shot in Darmstadt, Centrastation last year, with the track « Tanto". |

▪ MALI! ▪ In April 2018, I travelled to Mali for a week-long residency with Vincent Loiseau -Kwal- (voc.) and Hervé Moquet (bass), collaborating with 4 fabulous Malian artists: Adama Yalomba (ngoni and voc.), Cheick Diallo (Peul flute), Mamadou Koita -Ladji- (guitar), Mamadou Kone -Prince- (calabash). We had some very intense jams that led to a magnificent concert at the French Institute of Bamako. Read the concert review (in french)-> |

▪ NEW BERLIN PROJECT ▪ As you'll certainly know, for some years now I've been dividing my time between Tours (FR), Paris and Berlin. A ferment of artistic innovation, Berlin has allowed me to meet lots of exciting people. It’s in this state of mind, in which experimentation is at the heart of a lot of projects, that I recently played some sessions with guitarist and composer Peter Meyer (winner of an "Echo Jazz Prize" with his group Melt Trio and very active on the German scene). It’s a totally improvised encounter between violin and electronics. Peter has developed a computer-based process that allows him to record live sounds and acoustic effects from the violin, which he transforms, loops and modifies with effects. A « work in progress » project that we hope to present soon on stage and that you can experience in exclusivity via the link below. |
