It's May! Which means we made it through our busiest month this year. April was jam packed with IVF appointments, family trips, Jordans marathon training, and lots of goat kids! Hence no newsletter, blog post, or new goat milk lotion scents.
We officially completed the 2024 kidding season! It started with the tragedy of a stillborn buckling and ended with a big headed buck getting stuck, requiring us to assist Kissy with her delivery.
Kidding season is great, but can also be very stressful. You never know what will happen and how your does will do during labor. Although we had one loss this year, I still count this year a great success. All the mamas are healthy and all the kids are doing fantastic!
Grand total of 3 healthy buckling and 4 healthy doelings.
This is only our 2nd kidding season and each year we learn something new about the process and about our goats. Our system was much more fine tuned and we had WAY less anxiety than our first year.
This year we will be selling all the kids except Little Prince, he will become the wether companion for ChaseTheDream. We will also be making some tough decision to down size our herd a bit. All our goats are amazing but we can't keep up with the milk supply from 4 milking mama's and if we keep all the current does we will have 6 in milk next year... um no thank you. My hands ache just thinking about milking 6 goats twice a day.
